What is Russia up to in the Middle East?
Russian President Vladimir Putin, an ex-KGB spy who is accused of huge crimes is called everything, except a person to reason with.Russia on the Middle East He is described a narcissist, a philanderer and wife beater, a corrupt, and desperate person. Putin’s greatest legacy is corruption and the absence of accountability. The height of authoritarian regime in Russia has defended him and his top officials against prosecution for embezzlement of $40 – 50 billion and has turned Russia into a suicide bomb state.
Putin’s Russia by ignoring international norms in illegally annexing Crimea showed to the world that Russia is no different from a desperate wolf attacking on its neighbors at desperate times. Moscow’s military adventure in Syria and targeting areas controlled by groups other than the ISIS have ignited another casualty with bigger and long term consequences for the entire Middle East. Senior British Labor MP Bob Ainsworth compares Putin to Stalin, one of the most evil men in history and warns that Russia is a bigger threat to the world peace than ISIS.
Why desperate?
Moscow’s economy is at its worst time ever before since 2009. Oil and gas revenue in 2014, which made up more than half of the Russian federal budget has slipped to just over 40 percent and its GDP, is expected to shrink to 3.4 – 3.8 percent this year. Demand for oil and natural gas is weak. Oil price downing 50 percent losing more than half its value, has squeezed Russia and Putin by surprise. The economic restrictions by Western sanctions on main big Russian firms have crammed Russia’s projects. Russia’s volume of trade is declining globally. In spite of good trade relationship between Turkey and Russia prior to the airspace violation by Moscow, the amount of trade had declined 21.5 percent compared to 2014. Western sanctions forced Russia to pump even 10.74 million barrels of oil a day during September, a record level; but for Moscow barely enough to survive. The Russian – Syrian economic trade declined from $ 2 billion to $ 500 million in 2013, cartooning another nightmare for Putin. Suspension of the second Siberian gas project by Chinese energy firms, Moscow’s unnecessary $40 billion spending on Gazprom projects and the U.S. natural gas boom in European Market have dropped the Gazprom profit to 90%, a bad flavor that Russia has never tasted before.
A suicide bomb state
When an ant grows wings, it always gets eaten by a bird. Russia’s support for Assad in smashing opposition to his regime, violation of NATO airspace, and launching spoiled bombs at everybody, but terrorists, are nothing more, but a desperate act by an out of option Putin. Japan’s attack of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 was also a foolish and risky act by a desperate man. Ukrainian nationalism is on the rise throughout the country, provoked by Moscow’s disregard for Ukrainian sovereignty and Putin is using Syria as a distraction to get the Europe and the U.S. to back off on countering Moscow’s damage in Ukraine. Russia is trying to find a way out from isolation as a result of the illegal annexation of Crimea. Moscow also uses the deception of fighting ISIS in Syria, to fuel bloody Syrian civil war, and drown Europe by unstoppable influx of migrants.
Russia’s missiles demo in Syria, violation of NATO airspace, and locking turkey’s patrolling jets only describe Russia a suicide bomb state. Since Russia has lost all its footholds in Egypt, Libya and Iraq; Putin is desperately throwing all the eggs Russia has onto a single basket. Unlike the propaganda boosted everyday by the Russian media around the world, Moscow’s military capabilities are still worthless. Recently, four of Russia’s missiles fired to hit Syrian rebels fell short and landed in Iran. The reports so far has only confirmed four out of 26 long range cruise missiles fired from a Russian warship targeting Syria, which have crashed in Iran.
It is the NATO’s call now
Russia is powerless when it confronts NATO. Putin’s armies cannot prevail in any contest with the NATO alliance. After the violation of Turkey’s airspace, NATO sent a clear and loud message to Moscow “We will send troops to Turkey to defend our ally against any threats”. Ankara has also summoned Moscow’s ambassador three times to protest, what Russia is doing in Syria. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly warned Russia of making grave mistake and waging state terror in Syria. The Russian intervention has increased tensions with the United States, which backs the rebels fighting to oust authoritarian regime of Assad. The U.S. state department claims that more than 90 percent of Russia airstrikes in Syria are not directed at ISIS and terrorists. French Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, has also urged Russia to direct airstrikes at ISIS, not rebels fighting to oust Assad. According to British defence ministry, just five percent of the Russian airstrikes hit ISIS targets. Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO, has given Russia a warning to take the necessary steps to align its efforts with the international community in the fight against ISIS.
It is now or never for NATO to increase economic sanctions, reduce Europe’s reliance on Russian energy and to revisit the strategic defence review of 2010 in response to Russia’s dangerous incursions and interventions into sovereign states.

Excerpt from The Journalist: Attack on the Central Intelligence Agency
The Journalist: Attack on the Central Intelligence Agency
The first man who entered the room was muttering something. His face was flushed with anger and he was sweating profusely, and his hands were fisted tightly almost exploding from the pressure and there was a deep frown on his face. A punch landed on Takdeer’s face, knocking him off the chair. More men entered the room. They started breaking and smashing things. A 15-year-old boy on the corner of the room hit the jug on the wall, and slammed the laptop on the ground. A big fat man, who seemed to be in his 30s, tore the curtains. It was a nightmare, a very scary one.
The mob of angry men is on Takdeer in a matter of seconds, he is beaten badly, and he feels as if his body has received 100 punches at the same time, he is being kicked all over. His face is in blood and his body is swollen and turns black and blue. He circles his hands over his head and jams his legs towards his stomach, but it does not help much. There was too much pressure on his body. He closes his eyes as his hands getting weaker. He stretches his arms and hands trying to cover his face, but the kicks keep coming. He is a tough man, ready to take even a hundred more kicks and punches on his body as far as his head is not smashed. He catches glimpse of a man in black jeans and locally made shoes grabbing his feet and pulling him toward the door. He thought maybe the Walking Dead have come, but unfortunately for him, it was not the Walking Dead!
The mob of angry men keeps shouting “Allah Akbar” and pulls him from third floor to the ground. His clothes are torn and tattered as they drag, pulled and push him around. They grab his feet and hands, while his head and back are rammed by each step. He is in unbearable pain, blood oozes out of his mouth and nose. His friends from the fourth and fifth floors are scared to death. No one dares to come to his rescue. They record the scene on their mobile phones, while Takdeer fights the pain crippling his entire body. He looks at his friends – unable to speak, he begs them for help through his facial expressions. The pain of seeing his friends looking away is more excruciating than the physical agony his experiencing.
As he is dragged down the stairs, his head and his back are scraped against the floor with blood coming out of his mouth more quickly. Many of his friends could not stand to witness this cruelty for more than a few seconds. He is on the brink of losing consciousness, because of the pain and loss of blood, when he is dragged out into the street and the hot summer sun hits his eyes blinding him. The men standing around him are the Journalist shouting constantly, he cannot hear anything anymore, but he knows it is “Allah Akbar” the chant that is uttered before an animal or person is slaughtered. He feels a salty liquid running inside his eyes causing him irritation; he knows it is blood from his face. He is breathing blood, and experiencing excruciating pain.
There was anger and terror in the eyes of the men, long black messy beards going in and out their mouth and a thick coat of dirt over their feet and hands like a black leather jacket. The moment he makes eye contact with one of them, the man spits on Takdeer’s face. They act like they are possessed by demons.
He is beaten badly all over, but he still tries to stay awake, because he knows they are going to kill him. As he watches the men, his back touches the ground and his legs are stretched like scissors. His hands have turned blue because of the bashing he has received. One of men comes from front, with sweat all over his face, and stands still for a minute. He then looks at his face and kicks him hard in the groin. Takdeer is no longer able to understand what is happening. He is getting weaker with every passing second. His body has gone numb and his head feels as if it will explode from pain. He has no control over his limbs. The last thing he remembers is the daylight turning to dusk. As if the day has suddenly turned into night. Maybe he is dead, maybe this is the end.

12 ways to stay alive in Afghanistan
If you have ever tried to tell someone in Afghanistan that you have been to Europe before, they suddenly will tell you.
“Why did you come back? Are you a stupid?”Security in Afghanistan
Do not try to argue with them and avoid justifying your return, because your reasons do not make any sense to them. Everyone wishes to leave Afghanistan and live somewhere safe. However, many foreigners have come to Afghanistan for work. If you are here for that purpose bear in mind these short points for your own safety.
Do not get out of the bed early morning. Stay until the sun shines, because most of the terrorist attacks happen in the early morning or late night. Avoid going out late night, or you will find yourself in the hospital or in a morgue.
Stay away from public gatherings. Terrorists most often explode themselves in the public gatherings. If you are a journalist and need to be there for making a report. So try to find a spot where there are not a lot of people.
Do not visit government offices and departments most often. I mean even ministries. Try to ask them to come to see you in your office or invite them for a lunch in a luxury hotel in the mid of the day. I am sure they won’t say no, when it is in a luxury hotel. it will cost you, but it will also safe your live.
Do not take the same road twice. I know it is a generic advice, you have heard it so many times. However, in here if you do not take it seriously, you are done.
Do not look fancy in public. If you are a woman, you may love to wear a short or something that makes you a killer ( I mean sexy), but when you are in public, be careful. There are a lot of wolves that can eat you at the spot. No one is asking you to look poor, just do not look too luxury and expensive. You may get kidnapped one day.
Do not meet people if you really do not know them. They can be cute, friendly and funny, but they can also be dangerous and poisonous. Little snakes are cute, but they also kill.
Good hotels cannot keep you safe. Terrorists can reach to where you live, either it is a fully guarded hotel or an anti-tank. Prefer to have your own place. Pay a few more pennies and take an apartment where you can feel home.
Do not forget to bring your gun wherever you go. If you are going to washroom, you better have it. You cannot trust anyone. Do not make an exception or you will regret it.
Keep your identity safe. They know you are a foreigner, but if you have a dark skin, tell them you are from Asia. Tell them you are from Malaysia or Indonesia. They do not really know, but it will work. If you tell me you are an American or a European citizen, you are putting yourself in danger of getting kidnapped. Moreover, if you are a Jewish, never mention it to anyone.
If you are a drinker, do not tell anyone. It is sometimes worse than being a Jewish. You are going to be killed.
You cannot trust the man with the gun standing in front of your door. They are there for your security and safety, but you know the story. Most often the man who is there to safe you just kill you.
Drink a lot of water- that is funny, isn’t it. I was just kidding. Although water is good for health. Stay safe

1. Afghanistan Victim of neighbors’ desire
For the last century Afghanistan was a victim of foreigners’ desires. Sadly within last five decades it has not changed but neighbors have also joined this tragedy. Every country projected Afghanistan to act and respond the way they wanted.
In 1979 the Russians invaded Afghanistan; they believed we would be their allies’ in access to oil resources in middle east and spread of Communism ideology. US, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan provided aid to Afghan rebels to overthrow the Soviet Union. These triangular allies believed we would fight for them if they give us weapons and money and we proved that. In 1989 after 10 years of war and destruction Russians left Afghanistan. We were in chaos and the world was watching us while we were killing each other like gladiators in the arena.
At the time when we were completely damaged, the Taliban was sent to destroy our history, culture and education. The rise of the Taliban as an oppressive and strict Islamic ruling government led million Afghans to leave their beloved motherland and risk their lives. Thousands were killed and treated as animals inside and outside of the country while they were running for their lives.
From 1996 to 2001 Afghans were in a very miserable situation. Everything had changed, there were no fear of death in children’s eyes because they had seen hanging, stoning to death and chopping heads in playgrounds and parks. The bodies remained on the street for days and no one dared to say or do anything.
Everyone was disappointed and frustrated. We were children and residing in the mosque from morning to evening. We were about to turn into monsters enjoying torturing those who didn’t understand the praying verses. The World was looking at us but with blind eyes and ruthless heart.
On 11 September 2001, a radical Islamic group founded by Osama Bin Laden hijacked four planes and organized series of terrorist attacks against the United States. US, UK and NATO lead forces attacked Afghanistan and overthrew Taliban regime. Today after 12 years of Afghan government we feel we are in the right direction but we won’t make it, unless our leaders and politicians do not say the same YES to neighbors as they told decades back.

“30 Pieces”: Collection of essays and articles
“30 pieces” is the collection of essays and articles I have written since 2011. Most of articles and essays in this book focus on political, social and economic situation of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Chapter one is allocated to all articles and pieces that explain the problems, challenges and obstacles Afghanistan is facing today.
“30 Pieces” is also available in Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D6UYYD0
Chapter one which contains 11 articles starts with the Great game that was played in Afghanistan. It also looks at the ideological and political conflicts of Iran and Saudi Arabia in Afghanistan. Later it explains how foreign countries projected Afghanistan. The essays in this chapter also focus on the internal conflicts created by ethnic groups’ over the language and nationality disputation.
In this chapter we also discuss about the economic failure of Afghan government, and corruption. In the third essay I have criticized how incapable governors are assigned by president Karzai in the provinces. In another part of this section I’ve looked at the problematical acts of Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Acting beyond the constitution and waging war against neighboring countries.
Later in article 6 I am analyzing the intricacy of Afghan foreign policy and how it affects the living conditions of Afghans refugees. Why Afghan government does not have any foreign policy and what are the consequences. Later in article 7 I have discussed a series of social problems raised by the internet and globalization. Later I am discussing about the fallacious stories of the favored daughter’; the book of Fawzia Koofi.
In the next article I have criticized the chain of corruption in Afghanistan. How hard it is to stand against it and how I was forced to give bribes.
In the next part I have looked over the chances we have and how we can get rid of all these problems. And finally, chapter one ends with the Afghan- Pak conflicts and the consequences both nations will face.
Chapter two starts with an emotional article which portrays the Afghan refugees living condition in Pakistan. Later I am discussing the paradoxical facets of Pakistan. In the next article I have discussed the change of “The Great Game” from Afghanistan to Pakistan. In addition to that I have discussed the social problems that are rising day by day in Pakistan and how it is affecting the social stability of Pakistan. Chapter two ends with an article which was written during the Afghan-Pak journalism exchange program.
Chapter three analyzes the pressure of Iranians over Afghanistan. How they manipulate individuals in Afghanistan to control policies and strategies. Next article explains the situation of Afghan refugees living in Iran and comparing their living conditions with Jewish during World War II. Afterward I am discussing the role of seduction and manipulation in social life. This article was written for the purpose of understanding the feelings and emotions of people and published by Articlebase.com.
In the next article I have listed all the problems and challenges that Afghan students are facing while applying for scholarships. In addition I have enlisted recommendation to scholarship providers and universities. Next article looks from the perspective of a journalist. I have claimed that how media support organizations and donor agencies are playing with the lives of Afghan journalists. This article was also published in the International News Safety Institute of America.
Subsequently I am talking about media and civil society organizations in Afghanistan. The failure of development projects since 2001 up to now.
I was very keen to write articles and essays since I was in school and all my pieces were in Persian language. Even when I came to university I was writing for newspapers and magazines but they were all in my native language.
It was hard work to write but I was enjoying seeing my articles in newspapers. Later in 2009 and 2010 I started writing articles in English language. I sent my articles to international newspapers and magazines and I received feedback and comments, most of them encouraged me to work harder and make something more useful.
In 2010 I saw a number of my articles published in international newspapers. And that gave me the reason to work harder. Finally in mid 2010 I established my own website[1]. I wrote and posted articles on a daily basis and I received feedback from readers. Later I joined the development network of writers, where I found the Afghan Journalists network and currently it has more than 200 members from different countries.
In 2011 I established first committee of Afghan journalists.[2] Since that I have been posting and publishing all my articles on daily and weekly basis.
After publishing and posting plenty of articles and essays I decide to collect them and turn them into a book. Here finally I was able to do that. The essays and articles in this book provide ground realities about Afghanistan and Pakistan.
English is my third language and frankly I am not as good as I should have been while aiming to write a book. I hope any grammatical mistakes and errors that I might have made shall only be considered as lack of my English proficiency.M.F. Moonzajer30 Pieces
