The Author of Kipnuk the Talking Dog is Heather Wolf, a California resident who since childhood always dreamed of writing children's stories. Heather has been actively involved in the snow sports industry through snowboarding and mushing. She is a lover of animals and has coached children's sports for many years.

After miraculously surviving a near fatal snowboarding accident in 1999, she decided to pursue a career teaching children's snowboarding in Southern California. As a result of the accident, Heather was very passionate about teaching children the safety aspect of snowboarding and mountain awareness skills. In addition, she has been active in volunteering and coaching youth league sports. In another twist of fate, Heather was scheduled to be in Tower 2 on September 11, 2001 with 300 other people from her F.A.I.T. class at Morgan Stanley. She had been studying for her Series 7 exam while working at Morgan Stanley. Due to missing approximately 12 questions, she failed the test and was dropped from the program and lost her job. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Heather received a call from her supervisor telling her to turn on the TV, what had happened and that he had just looked at the calendar for that day realizing Heather had been scheduled to be at the Morgan Stanley HQ in Tower 2 for her training starting September 10, 2001 for 2-3 weeks. After Heather heard this, she fell to her knees in tears and thanked God that she didn't pass her test. It was a very sad and tragic day that she feels a connection to as a result of her circumstances. Each year that passes she remembers those many brave people such as firefighters and first responders who gave their life to try to save another and wishes the families comfort for their great loss.

Over the years, Heather has been involved in acting and more recently was cast as "Hodel" in the musical, Fiddler on the Roof. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, baking, horseback riding and spending time at the beach with her Alaskan malamute, Kipnuk. She also enjoys photography, plays guitar, sings, paints and designs wildflower gardens. Her love of animals and children and many years working with both, influenced her to put her stories down on paper.
