Book Launch/Reading!

Well, I kept my promise.
I said I wouldn’t ping you until the Fall, and here it Is. Autumn. Pumpkin and sweater time. The perfect time to curl up with a new book, get all excited that your author friend is having a reading, and THEN carry on with booking your holiday flights.
That’s right! You heard me. I’m having my first reading/signing at Green Apple Books in San Francisco on November 19th at 7:00 p.m.
Green Apple Books is my second favorite bookstore on planet Earth. (My favorite is Powells Books in Portland, Oregon).
This is my first signing, so it will naturally have a few special touches. If you’ve already bought a copy, come out and get it signed! If you haven’t read the book, get a great sample teaser! And if you are cringing at the screen right now because you still haven’t bought a copy, don’t worry. This is your chance to redeem things if you’ve been whisked away by the BusyBee.
Green Apple Books is an independent bookstore that’s been in business for 38 years. If you are getting this evite, it's because you are the cream of the mocha; you are the most supportive, interesting, progressive, fresh and sweetest people I know. We've bonded in some way, who knows what it was (something politically incorrect?) So do know that it would mean a great, great deal to have you there. Please support both myself and this iconic SF bookstore by attending this one-of-a kind event!
With love and candy,
Karryn

************************************
There was a moment when I was 13, sitting at my mother’s feet in the little library off her master bedroom. The carpet was a warm buttery beige. The late morning sun streamed in, pleasantly basking my feet and hers in our slippers as we finished digesting a yummy Sunday breakfast of cinnamon rolls, bacon and orange juice. Her second cup of tea sat steaming on the wicker side table, and she cracked open a copy of poetry from her college days.

She began reading Edgar Allen Poe’s, ‘The Raven’.
I fell in love. At 13, Literature became my first love. And it has remained my most steadfast, rewarding, surprising, supportive, exasperatingly lovely relationship. I was chilled to the bone by her reading, transported to the brittle tap, tap, tap at the window. Shivering in anticipation despite the sun, of the bird that so haunted that man…that is was coming for ME next. That poor, sad, grey-hearted man.

I think my mouth actually fell open.

I remember wondering how she did that magic.
My entire life was shifted from that point in time… to this time. I’ve debated whether or not this story needed to be told. After all, it’s silly, right? It’s just one girl, going through one job, having adventures, dealing with her own idiosyncrasies?
Then I realized I had described us all.

So here it is, my contribution to the literary world. My voice. Part truth, part fiction.

Happy Birthday, Book!
