Langley writes full-time in Durham, North Carolina

Born an Army brat to a WWII and Korea vet, Dawn (Brander Tutela Reno) Langley began writing at a young age. Her essay on the Cuban missile crisis was published in a local newspaper, and since then, she has written hundreds of articles for newspapers and magazines, has published children's books, novels, nonfiction books on Native American and African American art, award-winning essays, short stories, and poetry.

As a novelist, she employs the skills she used as a journalist and conducts extensive research. Each story centers on a social dilemma, and she never writes a story about which she has no passion. The back story for each novel is on her Goodreads blog. https://www.goodreads.com/autho

No, the right answer to this question is that I get to live in my head. I can create situations and fix issues and make sure people fall in love or win arguments. I get to write the ending of their stories.(less)

I always have several projects started at once, and there are ideas "in the hopper" all the time.

So, I guess my answer is: I work through it!(less)

“All around the edges of the platform where she sat, elephants stood patiently waiting for their breakfast. Occasionally, one would grunt or snort or flap its ears, but otherwise, they were as quiet as apparitions.”
Dawn Reno Langley, The Mourning Parade

“Andrew stood, facing Peter and Natalie with a wry smile on his face. "You know, one of the reasons I started this sanctuary is because the best way to treat broken animals is with broken people. Each fixes the other.”

“I think... if it is true that

kinds of love as there are hearts.”
Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina

Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina

“One day I would have all the books in the world, shelves and shelves of them. I would live my life in a tower of books. I would read all day long and eat peaches. And if any young knights in armor dared to come calling on their white chargers and plead with me to let down my hair, I would pelt them with peach pits until they went home.”
Jacqueline Kelly, The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate

“every mouth you’ve ever kissed
was just practice
all the bodies you’ve ever undressed
and ploughed in to
were preparing you for me.
i don’t mind tasting them in the
memory of your mouth
they were a long hall way
a door half open
a single suit case still on the conveyor belt
was it a long journey?
did it take you long to find me?
you’re here now,
welcome home.”
Warsan Shire

So true! I love his mind -- and he's cute in a funky, bookish-Harry-Potter-professor type of way. I guess he's as close to magical realism as it gets without being Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Have a good weekend yourself.
