World Undone: The Soundtrack
It’s playlist time! And World Undone has a long-ass playlist, mainly due to the number of songs our friends play in the story. Because karaoke! Don’t worry, that’s not much of a spoiler, and if you haven’t yet read World Undone, it’ll answer the question you’re surely asking yourself as you scroll down the list of songs: What the hell is going on in this book?
That’s part of what’s going on. The rest of the songs? Well, you’ll have to read and see for yourself.
Don’t want to see links to the YouTube videos and read all my ramblings about each song? Here’s a TL;DR link to the Spotify playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1wkwdscuECz4GHD94fKvS6?si=df5a0df8284a44a2
Now, without further ado:
Doves “Pounding”
I wanted to start with something upbeat but also sort of bittersweet. Because all is well for now – and we know how long that usually lasts in the zompoc. You’ve gotta grab the good when you can.
“See the light, But it won’t last forever, Seize the time, ‘Cause it’s now or never, baby.”
All right, here’s where it kinda goes wackadoodle, so I’ll just put most of the songs without a lot of commentary. But there’s singing and dancing involved!
Dion “Runaround Sue”
Pat Benatar “Love Is A Battlefield”
I mean, who doesn’t love the shoulder shimmy? It’s a classic.
ABBA “The Winner Takes It All”
That high note at the end – hahahaa
Redbone “Come And Get Your Love”
I would pay good money to see this song’s scene in real life.
The Weather Girls “It’s Raining Men”
You had to know it’d show up sooner or later. And, yes, I love disco. Unreservedly, unabashedly, and forever. World without end, amen.
El DeBarge “Rhythm of the Night”
How can you not dance to this? You could do any dance move on Earth, and it’d work. You’re freaking right that it’s a celebration, Mr. DeBarge. It’s like he wrapped up *fun* and put it in a song. An ’80s song. And it doesn’t get much better than that.
Morrissey “Sing Your Life”
As some of you know, I’ve included a Smiths song on every playlist of this series. I’ve decided this counts as that song. Also, this is one of the best songs to sing along with. Try it. You’ll see!
Dolly Parton “Here You Come Again”
It’s Dolly, y’all. That’s why.
David Bowie “Modern Love”
I have a Bowie story! Years ago (2003, maybe? You can Google – I’m too lazy), we saw Radiohead at an MTV $2 bill concert at the Beacon Theater in NYC. We slept outside for the tickets, and there’s a whole annoying story around that because people who hadn’t waited in line all night pushed their way in and got the tickets because sometimes people are total assholes with absolutely no conscience or sense of fair play.
But I digress. We did get to go to the show after all, and we ended up in the 7th row. Which was pretty awesome. At one point, we turn around, and David Freaking Bowie is sitting a few rows behind us. Aside from the fact that David Bowie was sitting a few rows behind us, we also had better seats than David Bowie. How the hell did that happen?
Anyway, that’s my story. No, I didn’t go up to Bowie. My extremely introverted ass doesn’t do things like that, and I’m sure old DB appreciates it.
Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers “Islands in the Stream”
This is it, y’all, where some magic happens between two people who shall remain nameless. FINALLY.
REO Speedwagon “Can’t Fight This Feeling”
This is another scene between two people. It was an unexpected moment, but as we all know, “No mortal man can resist The Wagon.”
Radiohead “Up On The Ladder”
Chapter 15
“Up on the ladder, we wait for your mistake.” It only takes an instant.
Mother Falcon “Marigold”
Chapter 17
This is where someone is telling someone else to give in and try for love. Fight! Fight! Fight!
Also, one of my all-time favorite songs is by Mother Falcon (the kind I can have on repeat for 20 minutes straight), and I keep trying to work it into a playlist, but I haven’t yet found a spot that works. One day I might have to force you to listen to it just because.
The video has 42 seconds of silence/video at the beginning, and since I figured many of you would be like WTF are you playing at, Sarah? I’ve started the embedded video at :40.
Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwoʻole “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”
Chapter 20
I love this song. And, apparently, so does someone in Alaska.
Gorillaz “On Melancholy Hill”
I realized something as I was searching for songs that I love that would be good for scenes where people are going about their business and working together and are all yay for stuff! And that realization was that so many songs are NOT yay for stuff! Or they’re yay for LOVE instead of yay for EVERYTHING, and I didn’t want a love song.
For instance, here was one of my thoughts: “It’s summer and things are good, so how about ‘It’s Summertime’ by the Flaming Lips?” And then I really thought about the lyrics. “It’s summertime, and I can understand if you still feel sad…When you look inside, all you’ll see is a self-reflected inner sadness” …and so on. Ha, nope!
This kept happening, over and over.
Despite its name, “On Melancholy Hill” isn’t sad sad. It’s bittersweet, maybe. And in the movie version of World Undone in my head, we’re only playing the cheery melody and good lines. So just vibe out with me and picture lovely gardens and good friendships and laughter.
Journey “Don’t Stop Believin'”
Chapter 22
Yeah, I know we’ve all heard it a million times, but c’mon. It’s impossible to not belt out, “Streetlights, people-ul-ul-ul!” every time.
Prince & The Revolution “When Doves Cry”
Chapter 23
Breakdance battle!
Midlake “Roscoe”
I’m picturing a montage of them building a life and canning food and battening down the hatches, just in case.
M83 “Don’t Save Us From The Flames”
Chapters 34-35
By now, y’all likely know that I have some go-to bands for action scenes, and M83 is on the list. This is a great one.
Brighton “Forest Fire”
Chapter 36
I’ve been waiting to give y’all this song for YEARS. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking and perfect for this whole part. You could probably just play it for the next four chapters.
Radiohead “Like Spinning Plates (Live)”
Chapter 41
If you know Radiohead, then you know the live version of this song is completely unlike the album version. It’s soaring and yearning and just…gorgeous. I wanted so badly to hear it live, and when I finally did for the first time at one of their shows in 2001, I cried. And now you know what a complete dork I am.
Anyway, this song. This chapter.
The New Pornographers “We’ve Been Here Before”
Final chapter
I had several contenders for last song, but this ended up winning, as I thought it captured the mood and setting best. The lyrics, y’all. You gotta read them.
Until next time! Thanks for listening!

World Undone is here!

Book four of The Cascadia Series is out!
I’ve had many people ask if it’s the final book. Nope! There’s at least one more to go.
For you audio listeners, the audiobook can be pre-ordered HERE, and it’ll be out July 2nd – so freaking soon!
As always, thank you so much for your support and patience and general awesomeness. You guys are the best.

World Without: The Soundtrack
Hiya! I’m back with a soundtrack. Oh yeah, and a book. You can find that HERE. Once again, the books have been split. As it stands, there will be at least two more books in this series.
For those of you saying, “Sarah, we like longer books! What’s with this bullshit?!” I will say that every book in this series is still longer than the longest in the UTEOTW series – and that this length is considered “too long” by many publishing houses. So, there.
I’ll also say that life circumstances have made writing super long-ass books harder to do within any reasonable length of time. I LOVE writing (and reading!) 800 page books, but it’s just not doable at the moment.
Part of the reason I’m telling you the above is because it affects the music, namely the number of songs in each book. There are songs that were going to be in this book, but they’ve been moved to the next because it’s actually the “second half” of this book, at least in my mind. Confused yet? Me, too!
Anyhoo, to the playlist!

Chapter 1: “So Now What” – The Shins
This is a great one, and it fits perfectly. I had this crazy idea somehow we’d coast to the end. Change lies in every direction. So now, guess we just begin again. Yep.
Chapter 3/4: “Take Care” – Beach House
Y’all know these folks have been through a lot, and here’s a little quiet bit of reaffirming ties and making promises. You know, before the next horrible thing happens. Hahahaaa. *clears throat* Sorry.
Chapter 11: “Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall” Simon and Garfunkel
I just love this song, which is why it’s in the book. And now you have to listen to it. You’re welcome.
Various Chapters:
“Under The Pressure” The War On Drugs”
“Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” Tame Impala
So, the next two songs are kind of general feeling songs. If you’ve read the book, you know there’s a lot of strife and pressure going on here. Every time they think they’ve got a handle on things, they find out they don’t.
The first, “Under The Pressure” has a super long ending of just ambient sound (I think it’s ambient sound? Whatever. I’m a writer not a musician!), so feel free to cut off the song at about 6 minutes – that’s all I want you to hear.
I think the reason for this one is pretty self-explanatory. And, yeah, I co-opt love songs for things like foraging. Fight me.
Chapter 25 “Runaway” The National
Knowing The National, this is likely about some dysfunctional relationship (haaaaa), but since they encourage listeners to take our own meanings from their lyrics, I see this as a conversation between the two in this scene. About how everything is scary and fucked up and coming undone, but they can’t let it fuck up their relationship, too. They have to get through it together.
But I won’t be no runaway, ’cause I won’t run.
More Random Chapters: “Oscillate Wildly” The Smiths
As you may have realized, I’ve been putting a Smiths song in every playlist of these books because the band is special to the characters. (And me!) I chose “Oscillate Wildly” because I think it embodies the searching and frenetic feeling of their plight.
Chapter 29: “Two Weeks” Grizzly Bear
“Then eat my fucking jerky.” That’s all I have to say about why it’s in the book.
Yes, the video is slightly creepy – close your eyes if you must.
Chapter 31: “4 Minute Warning” Radiohead
You know we always have to have some RH. This when they know something’s gotta give.
Chapter 31/32: “Karma Police” Radiohead
This is when they’re doing the thing that might not be the “right” thing, but is also possibly the karma someone deserves for refusing to help. I also like “for a minute there, I lost myself,” as I think it fits.
Chapter 41-43: “Parting of the Sensory” Modest Mouse
I think this sums it up nicely. The lyrics. The ending. *chefs kiss*
I have three – yes THREE – songs for the last chapter. Each is a separate part. Here they are, in order.
“To Build a Home” The Cinematic Orchestra
“I’ll Be Seeing You” Billie Holiday – Here on the blog I’m also adding a random YouTube video I found that isn’t on Spotify. She does a lovely job, and it’s pretty close to how I imagine it sounding in the book.
“So Here We Are” Bloc Party The very end.
I made a vow to carry you home. I figured it out. I can see again.
“I’ll Be Seeing You” Billie Holiday
Cybelle Dabner’s version
“So Here We Are”
Thanks for reading and listening! Thanks for putting up with forever and a day between book releases. Thanks for being awesome!

World Between: The Soundtrack
Here we are again! Since World Between ended far sooner than I thought it would, I can’t share some of the songs I was so excited to share. *sob* But you’ll get them next book!
As for this one, it’s a mix of new and old. Part of the fun of writing people my own age is that I get to relive my youth and throw in songs I might not otherwise put in a playlist.
Scroll down to the bottom for the Spotify link to the entire playlist.
“Girl Afraid” – The Smiths
This is more a general song with no specific chapter. But I think many of us can relate to the relationship angst, as some of my characters do.
“Head On” – The Jesus and Mary Chain (Chapter 12)
Yeah, so you’re gonna have to imagine this played the way it is in the book. Also, as far as I’m concerned, there’s only ONE (rock) version of this song, and it’s this one. Sorry Pixies, yours was okay, but this is where it’s at.
“Flaws” – Vancouver Sleep Clinic (Chapter 15)
A song about the struggle of dealing with our emotions and burdens. About making mistakes. About trying to do it alone – and about how we shouldn’t.
“Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want” – The Smiths (Chapter 15)
When you’re really, really sorry and hope for forgiveness. At least in this instance.
“Close to me” – The Cure (Chapter 26)
This song just called out to me for this chapter. And I’ve got another below. I couldn’t decide, so you get both!
“I Wanna Be Adored” – The Stone Roses (Chapter 26)
*sighs happily*
“Say Yes” – Elliott Smith (Chapter 27)
I love this song, and it’s PERFECT for this chapter.
“Until She Comes” – The Psychedelic Furs (Chapter 31 & maybe 32)
I think you’ll get why when you hear it. This is one of my favorite songs by TPF.
“Maps” – Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Chapter 34)
This song has been played a lot. However, that doesn’t mean it’s not good. And it’s one of the most perfect angst-ridden songs ever written about unrequited love.
“Sweet Disposition” – The Temper Trap (Chapter 41)
I fucking love this song. It can come on after I’ve heard it forty times, and I’ll think I don’t need to hear it, and then I’m belting out, “…stay thereeeeeeeeeeeee, ’cause I’ll be coming oveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerr…”
So many lines work for this scene. It’s youth, and passion, and just really freaking awesome.
I’m listening to it as I type this. Turn it up. Loud. You won’t be sorry.
“Idioteque” – Radiohead (Chapters 42-45)
Of course I didn’t forget Radiohead! I won’t say too much (spoilers!) but it fits these scenes.
“Iowa” – Exitmusic (Chapter 46)
It starts off slow, but then…oh, man. When I first heard this song, I think I listened to it ten times in a row. It’s about the death of relationships, and the sorrow we feel about it, but it’s also about how love doesn’t always completely die. At least that’s what I get from it.
“Perth” – Bon Iver (Chapter 47)
I couldn’t find a song I really wanted for this final chapter, though I had multiple contenders. Then I was listening to music one day, and “Perth” came on. I’ve heard it before, of course, but it clicked into place.
The drums are just…wow. And the line “Still alive, who you love.” *sobs*
It’s about loss, and somber like I wanted, yet I love how it has so much movement, almost like a march. Like moving forward, despite everything. And that’s why it’s here.
That’s all! Thanks for listening, and I’ll see you next book!

World Between is here!
Yeah, it’s been a long time. A looooooong time. But I have news:
World Between is here!
For now, it’s available in paperback and ebook form, but I’ve heard from Podium Audio that the audiobook already has a release date of March 15, 2022. Hurrah!
Here’s the link to buy the book on Amazon, in case you don’t want to listen to me babble about the new book below.
Okay, they’re gone. Now, as for the rest of you, hello! Sorry about the wait for this one, but I basically missed a year of work due to lockdowns and distance learning. Writing a book when you’re being interrupted by children every 15 minutes (seriously, not even joking) is next to impossible. Or maybe it’s possible, but writing a halfway decent book isn’t possible, at least for me.
Because of time constraints, and because the book grew longer than I expected, I made the decision to end World Between in the spot I’d originally intended to be the middle of the story. Don’t worry, it’s still long at 157K words. (You know I can’t shut up!) I had many moments of angst about this decision, but I think it was the right one.
This means The Cascadia Series will be at least four books long. And it means that I no longer feel like I have to rush through what would’ve been the second half of the book, and that’s awesome – there are so many scenes I look forward to writing, and they deserve my full attention. Stay tuned for a title. For now, I’m calling it Cascadia Book Three – just doesn’t flow, right?
Anyway, thanks for waiting for the book. I promise I will do my damnedest to get the next out sooner. As always, y’all are the best readers. Thanks for being you.
And now, FINALLY:

I hope you like it! xo

World Departed: The Soundtrack
Here we are again. A book! A soundtrack!
This soundtrack was more fun than usual because I got to include music from my youth onward, both in the actual story and here. Yeah, I’m old, and so are some of the main characters, which means that you get a very random sampling of music from all over the place.
Here’s the link to the Spotify playlist, though one song isn’t on it because that song can only be found on YouTube. So check out the instrumental version of “There is a Light That Never Goes Out” down below. I think you’ll like it. You should listen to the original, too. You’re gonna have to like The Smiths if we’re going to get along, so go find your inner angsty teenager, kick back, and cue up some Morrissey. I’d suggest Louder than Bombs, The Queen is Dead, or The Smiths to start.
Link to SPOTIFY playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3bJj8t8bYmTAV0DND0Uqxu
So, here we go.
Chapter 12 “Apocalypse Please” Muse
This song fit the chaotic scene. Plus, it seemed like a good song for two indie-rock radio DJs to play in the midst of the zompoc.
Chapter 13: “I Know it’s Over” The Smiths
Much like Craig, this song holds many memories for me from long ago. My God, it’s maudlin, but it makes me so freaking happy.
Chapter 21: “Waiting For the World to End” Mother Mother
Craig, just sittin’ on the balcony.
Chapter 34: “There is a Light That Never Goes Out” The Smiths
(instrumental version by La Thang)
How many nights did we hang out drinking 40s of beer and being angsty teens who lived and died by this song? Oh! Hi Mom and Dad, I forgot you read my blog. The answer to that question is zero. Zero nights.
Chapter 35: “Wave of Mutilation” The Pixies
Who doesn’t like The Pixies? Only weirdos. Much like Rose, I know I’ll have this song stuck in my head all. the. time. in the zombie apocalypse. How could you not?
Chapters 28 – thirty-something: “Bulletproof … I Wish I Was” Radiohead
This is a song for Craig. Early Craig, who needs to find a little more faith in himself. Because I, for one, think he’s pretty awesome.
Chapter 41: “Do You Really Wanna Know” Papercuts
I just don’t know right now if I love you… Yeah, this song fits.
Chapter 50: “Here” Alessia Cara
If you want to understand how Rose feels at 96.3% of social engagements — and, apparently, at a Safe Zone with 500 people — listen to this song.
I can relate. As can the awesome friend who sent me this song years ago.
Chapter 57: “All of Me” Billie Holiday
Sitting in the Model-T.
Lady Day. What is there to say, except that she was amazing.
Chapter 57: “Enola Gay” Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
Wouldn’t it be nice if all we had to worry about these days was the Cold War?
Chapter 57: “Your Love” The Outfield
From Rose’s ’80’s playlist. I still love this song.
Chapter 61: “Mr. Brightside” The Killers
We all know this song. Yeah, my KIDS know this song. I can see you rolling your eyes, you know. But we were driving in the car one day, and this fit the scene I had in mind. As stories (at least mine) are wont to do, the scene changed somewhat, as did things prior to that scene. But I still like it, so I’m leaving it in. Mainly because someone is pretty jealous of someone else.

Instauration: The Soundtrack
Here I am with another book, which means another soundtrack!
Oddly, there aren’t many songs in the first half of the book. Not sure why that is, except that usually my songs are tied to scenes, and when those scenes all scooted around as the series changed (which happens) they all moved to the back of the book.
That said, we’re going to start off with a song I listened to a lot, but whose scene ended up not being a scene at all. (Yeah, that happens, too.) Still, it was on the playlist I continued to listen to, so you’re going to have to listen now.
“Midnight City” M83
“On the Sea” Beach House
Chapter 19. And 26, for that matter.
Man, I love this song. It’s the perfect song for their beleaguered minds and the garbage-strewn water of the rivers and New York Bay.
“Like Eating Glass” Bloc Party
Now we make a jump to chapters 44 – 47. I’m not going to say a lot. Except I love Bloc Party.
“Dayzed Inn Daydreams” Ariel Pink
Chapter 48.
This song is bonkers and frantic and awesome. It’s also beautiful. And the lyrics–I love ’em. Just listen.
“I Will” Radiohead
Also chapter 48. (The end of chapter 48.)
Of course Radiohead is on the playlist, goobers. You expect nothing less by now, right? This song. This freaking song. In just two minutes, you’re lifted up and thrown back down and then left in a sniveling, crying heap of emotion.
(This is the only video I could find of the shorter version.)
“My Tears are Becoming a Sea” M83
Chapter 50
I can (and have) listened to this song on repeat while writing. Over and over. And, still, if it comes on in the car or when I’m truly listening, it always gives me chills. M83 sure can give you the feels, amirite?
“Fill in the Blank” Car Seat Headrest
Chapter 56
I love this song. It makes me want to throw zombies off somewhere high instead of languishing in a funk. And that’s all I’ll say about that.
“Born With a Sound” The New Pornographers
Chapters 77 – 78
“Now I know love is the way.”
“Your Best American Girl” Mitski
Chapter 80 (The last part, specifically.)
This song is about a clash of cultures in a relationship and refusing to live up to certain expectations, especially when doing so would mean letting go of who you are. And about, as a reviewer said, rejecting “the idea that one must cede authenticity for love.”
Of course, you can read many places where Mitski says it much better than I do. It is her song, after all, and it’s absolutely gorgeous.
Though a bit different in my story, the words and ideas still resonated with me. And the music…damn, it’s so lovely.
“Present Tense” Radiohead
Chapter 81
So, I have one bone to pick with Radiohead: they make my embedding of videos very difficult in these posts because finding the studio version of many songs is next to impossible. Otherwise, Radiohead, you’re perfect. But maybe make my life a little easier? K, thanks.
I love love love this song. So will you. If you have a soul, that is. Ha.
Present Tense – Radiohead from DS on Vimeo.
“Simple Machine” Guster
Eric, chapters 83, 85, 87.
This song is pure awesomeness. Also, make sure to watch the video until 1:10. Heh.
“A Wolf at the Door” Radiohead
Chapter 84
Yep, another Radiohead song. Do you know how long this book is? It’s loooong. So, deal. One RH song just wasn’t enough.
Also, some characters just lend themselves to songs about wolves.
(In this (studio version!) video, you get the lyrics in English and Spanish. I thought that was pretty cool.)
“Shut Up Kiss Me” Angel Olsen
Chapter 101
When I first heard this song, I was like, “Holy crap!” It’s perfect for this scene, down to very particular lyrics. So much so that I think she might’ve written it for the book.
Fine, maybe not. Still perfect.
“King Without a Crown” Matisyahu (Live from Stubb’s version)
Chapter 105
What happens when an Orthodox Jew (well, nowadays a former Orthodox Jew) sings reggae? This song. And it’s amazing. There’s the studio version, and the acoustic version (which, one could argue, is better suited for this scene) but this remains, in my opinion, the best version and the one that helped to shape and inspire certain characters.
It’s exultant and ecstatic and rhapsodic–and a few more words Sylvie might know. I’ve been making people listen to this song for over a decade, and now it’s your turn. Lucky!
(Here’s the acoustic version below. Fine, you can play it for chapter 106.)
“Burundi” Saul Williams
Chapters: a whole bunch of ’em, starting with 113
Sooo, if you don’t like cursing, or political statements, or the idea that, as Saul Williams himself said, “…the collective WE will never be silenced,” then don’t listen to this song. But you’ll be missing out.
“Now” Matt and Kim
Chapter 118 (and some of 117, if you like)
Warning! Don’t watch this video if you have any reaction to strobe lights. They even have a handy-dandy link to stream the song before it starts in order to avoid them, so take advantage of that if you’d rather.
This song! I’ve been waiting to give y’all this song for three years; I’ve been waiting to write this scene for three years. Aaaah, finally! I can’t even express how happy I am to have done both now. It’s so freaking perfect that I get chills.
Okay, folks, we have a problem. I have TWO songs for the epilogue. They’re both perfect in their own way and I JUST CAN’T DECIDE.
I listen to “This Heart’s on Fire” by Wolf Parade and I’m like, “Heck yeah, this one!”
Then I listen to “There Goes the Fear” by Doves, and I think, “No way, THIS one!” Repeat this thirty-thousand times, in both orders, and you can see the conundrum I’ve faced. *sigh*
Both work for the final scene. Gah! I don’t knoooooow.
So, what I’m going to do is give them both to you and let you decide which one you like. Or you can do what I do and switch back and forth ad nauseam.
“This Heart’s on Fire” Wolf Parade (Whose lyrics couldn’t be more fitting.)
“There Goes the Fear” Doves
Instauration: Maps!
I have a couple of maps for y’all, to help you better visualize the city and all the various places within. They’re in the print copy, but those of you on ereaders and (forthcoming) audio don’t want to miss out!
First, Stuyvesant Town:

Peripeteia is here!

Peripeteia is now available on Kindle!
Thank you all for reading, and for being excited, and for waiting so patiently! The print book will come in a week or two, and the audiobook in about three months. I’ll keep you posted as I know.
Happy reading!

Peripeteia: The Soundtrack
If you’ve been around here a while, you know how I roll. Music makes the writing better for me, and I hope it makes the book better for you.
So, here we go again. And, as before, these artists have no idea who I am and have not agreed to be part of my make-believe world. But too bad for them. *sticks out tongue*
I’ve tried to be as spoiler-free as possible:
This first one is a song I listened to on repeat while out walking last fall, when the book was really coming together in my head. Sometimes I have a song that puts me in a certain writing mood or allows my mind to wander over the characters and story. And, I admit, I’m also excited to force people to listen to it–meaning YOU people. So listen! I’m pretty sure you’re gonna want to have a dance party. But the lyrics are awesome (and apt), too.
“Let it Happen” Tame Impala
Chapter 3. Interference Team A and the fire escape.
“War on the East Coast” The New Pornographers
Chapter five. Although, if you want it to be realistic, you should bring it to a screeching halt midway through. Heh. Try as I might, I couldn’t find you a video for this one.
“Crush” Sleigh Bells
Sylvie and Maria. Chapter 27. This song is so lovely and sad and uplifting and just…life.
“Should Have Known Better” Sufjan Stevens
Chapters 22 & 23. For whatever reason, the image of this song being played over those entire scenes both works (in my opinion, of course) and cracks me up.
“The Only Living Boy in New York” Simon and Garfunkel
Chapter 29. “And since there’s a good chance I won’t live to a ripe old age, I don’t want to waste time.”
“On My Way Back Home” Band of Horses
The second half of chapter 29. What can I say? Chapter 29 needed two songs.
“Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second” STRFKR
Chapter 45. “Because you might as well dance while you wait.”
I just love this song. Try not to move while you listen to it–not gonna happen.
“El Dia De Suerte” Hector Lavoe and Willie Colon
And, if you’re interested, here are some translated lyrics, although you can find many differing translations. But you’ll get the gist: El Dia De Suerte
Chapter 62. I think you’ll know which part of the chapter I mean.
“I Will Follow You Into the Dark” Death Cab for Cutie
Chapter 79. The Vale of Cashmere.
“Videotape” Radiohead
If you’ve been around Radiohead a while, you know this song has had many incarnations. I loved the more intense live versions that came before the studio version, but I also love the studio version, and that’s the version that best fits this part. Anyway, I couldn’t find the official studio version online, but this is basically it, only live. And it’s just as good because Thom Yorke always sounds freaking amazing. (Have I ever mentioned I love Radiohead? Yeah, I didn’t think so.)
Chapters 87-89. That’s all I’m gonna say about that.
“Wolf Like Me” TV on the Radio
Chapter 90. Again, my lips are sealed.
I just love this song so much, and I have for years. This is one of those songs you want played at your memorial. Or I do, at least.
“The Trapeze Swinger” Iron and Wine
The very, very end of the very last chapter. This was the only video I could find of this song’s studio version.
“Next Exit” Interpol
