The problem with Remy and Soren is that they love each other, but they hate each other, too. Their personalities are diametrically opposite, and they always knew that. When they started to feel attracted to each other, they were in a hostile situation, forced together by circumstances beyond their control, with only each other to rely on. Of course they were going to start having feelings for each other! But under more rational circumstances, they realized that those antagonistic feelings were still there; they had learned to be friends and allies, but their romantic energy was directed elsewhere, for both of them.

As for Eli...well, let's just say he's the closest thing she'll get to a sibling, these days. They're family; they could never be in a relationship. They're protective of each other to the last, in the same way a sister or a brother would be. But they're not romantically inclined :) (less)

“we sit in silence except for the trilling of the birds in the treetops, the rushing of the water in the streambed, and the building hum of shared hope. Hope that hate is not the answer, that it never was and never will be. That we can create something together that is greater than what we could create by ourselves. That love will always transcend our pasts.”
K. Makansi, The Reaping

“We think we improve on nature through science, through advanced agricultural practices, through manipulation of DNA, through this and that and the other. But we are always wrong. There is only nature, and we are part of it. If we set ourselves in opposition to nature, it will always rise up against us, eventually. And it will win.” I sense that, like me,”
K. Makansi, The Reaping

“Aren’t we all just a series of electrical processes?”
K. Makansi, The Sowing
