“I know; it's always been the words I
don't say that can move mountains.”
Hala Abdullah, Strip

“when the whole world rests on your shoulders, never allow your knees to kiss the floor. Invite it in wholly. Let it sink into your skin. It will disappear in shame once it sees the universes you hold within you.”
Hala Abdullah, Strip

“You're pulling at the strings that keep you standing because love is a play and you're done being dragged around by hands that aren't your own.”
Hala Abdullah, Strip

“Close, close all night
the lovers keep.
They turn together
in their sleep,

Close as two pages
in a book
that read each other
in the dark.

Each knows all
the other knows,
learned by heart
from head to toes.”
Elizabeth Bishop, Edgar Allan Poe & The Juke-Box: Uncollected Poems, Drafts, and Fragments

“If you live in a society that wishes you didn't exist, anything you do to make yourself happy disrupts its attempts to wipe you out, or at the very least, make you invisible.”
Pat Califia, Macho Sluts: Erotic Fiction

“Why do I write? I write because I have to, because it is all I know, because it is my truth, because I am compelled, because I am driven to make the world acknowledge that women like me exist, and we possess a dangerous wisdom. ”
Pat Califia

“Of two sisters
one is always the watcher,
one the dancer.”
Louise Glück, Descending Figure
