​My new flash fiction story "Monsters" is live today in Fantasy Magazine.

Its an uncomfortable little story, but ultimately one about healing and transformation. Fantasy Magazine has been a dream goal of mine for many years, ever since I was a subscriber in the early years of the publication. I couldn't be more delighted that this story has found a home here under the hands of editors Arley Sorg and Christie Yant.

I'm happy to have volunteered for this year's BIPOC mentorship program through Codex Writer's Group (previously -- and perhaps again this year -- via Ancestral Futures). The mentorship program for emerging, speculative BIPOC writers will run from September 15 to December 15. I attended my first Superstars in 2017 as a scholarship recipient. The full ride to the craft day plus three full days of workshops on the business of writing was amazing, but more than that, I became a permanent member of a large and supportive tribe of writers and mentors.
This year, not only is the Don Hodge Memorial Scholarship being offered again, but also two new scholarships: one for marginalized communities, and one for unpublished writers which includes hotel and air fare. A new site for finding the books you want to read is coming soon. Shepherd.com is currently in beta but will be launching fully sometime around the end of the year. It's a great concept for a book-finding resource that benefits both authors and readers and already has hundreds of author pages.

Capclave: Where reading is not extinct
