Mary Strand practiced law in a large Minneapolis firm until the day she set aside her pointy-toed shoes (or most of them) and escaped the world of mergers and acquisitions to write novels. The first manuscript she wrote, Cooper’s Folly, a romantic comedy, won RWA’s Golden Heart award and was her debut novel. Her love of Jane Austen prompted her four-book YA series, The Bennet Sisters.

Seemingly Perfect is her third novel in The Pendulum Trilogy of women's fiction novels.

Mary lives on a lake in Minneapolis with her family, too many Converse Chucks, and a stuffed monkey named Philip. When not writing books or songs, she lives for sports, travel, rocking out on guitar, dancing (badly), and ill-advised adventures (including dancing) that offer a

This is an easy one: HOGWARTS! In truth, I'd sneak out to Hogsmeade as often as possible (using the Marauders' map) to drink butterbeer, which I haven't had since last week). And I'd find the room of requirements, and live in the Gryffindor tower, and have adventures. I have my doubts about the Forbidden Forest, however. :-)(less)

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green
"Pros: fascinating ‘first encounter’ novel, very original, realistic portrayal of modern social media phenomenons Cons: the book ends in a cliffhanger for book 2. Also, the narrator was a 23 year old you tube blogger so personally she was hard for me " Read more of this review »

Emma-Jean Lazarus is strange: as in, extraordinary, remarkable, and singular. A 7th-grader who marches to the beat of her own drummer, she also pays attention to all of the other drummers out there. She doesn't always get it right, but her heart is a ...more

I want to love this book, and I can maybe nudge myself up to calling it a 3.5, but I'm not sure I'd actually recommend it, so down it comes to a 3. The 13yo heroine/narrator, Mibs, has an interesting psychic talent, as do her older brothers, and I en ...more
