A Fun Interview With Morgan and Jennifer Locklear!

Hello, my lovelies! :)

I had a quick and fun interview with Morgan and Jennifer Locklear, the authors of Exposure!

Read more below and make sure to check out their book! (Yes, I basically copied and pasted the post. I’m lazy. :P )

Random Fan with N. Michaels

This month’s Random Fan is fellow author N. Michaels. Her book, Emerald Eyes, is the first in a series and is now available via Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Emerald-Eyes-Trilogy-Book-ebook/dp/B00GNIOG26/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1415932553&sr=1-1&keywords=emerald+eyes+n.+michaels

Morgan and Jennifer: Tell us a bit about the Emerald Eyes trilogy. And what can readers expect from the second book, Onyx Heart?

N. Michaels: Hello and thank you having me! I’m a big fan of yours. I loved Exposure! :)

emerald eyes

The Emerald Eyes Trilogy came to me after the market was over saturated with plots that resembled Fifty Shade of Grey. They all had a domineering man and a virginal, naive woman.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy and am a huge fangirl of E L James (I can’t wait for the movie!), but I was bored of reading the same type of plot over and over in so many different books, and during a conversation with one of my best friends, Ella, I told her as much.

Her response was immediate, “Write what you want to read then.”

And I did.

Katherine Slav, my heroine, appeared in my mind and began telling me her story. And then she told me about Eric Miller, and I was hooked.

Katherine is anything  but naive, or shy. She’s confident in herself and her beauty. She doesn’t take BS from anyone, and that includes Eric.

Eric is a mystery, even to me sometimes. He’s very guarded and shares only what needs to be known. I’m still slipping through the cracks of his armor to figure him out.

I began writing during the day while my babies were napping and late night/early morning while the house was asleep.

The moment I reached the middle of the book, I knew how to end it. I leaned back in my chair and whispered, “Oh shit!” I grabbed my phone and called my second best friend, Milana and told her about the ending. She listened until the end and then she was tearing up, telling me I had to publish it.

Milana was with me every step of the way, I would write a few chapters, call her and read them to her. If I didn’t write for a few days she would call me to nag and motivate me. “You can’t leave me hanging like this! What happens after Mark enters the suite?”

She was a source of encouragement and support and still is, and for that, I thank her. ♡

After finishing writing Emerald Eyes, the second book in the trilogy, Onyx Heart began to unfold in my mind. I always take notes and write whatever happens at that moment. I even have a few key scenes from the third and last book written down.

My mind will show me the most important moments, like a slide reel, and when I sit down to write the rest just flows and all those scenes come together.

N. Michaels: Where did the idea for Exposure come from?

Jennifer: One afternoon several years ago, I was spending a day at home doing the laundry. Laundry is never my favorite thing to do, but according to the rest of my family I have some talent for it so I own it.

Not surprisingly, my mind began to wander while I plodded through the chore. As I was trying to carry a particularly large and awkward load of clothing from the utility room, I began thinking about what I’d really like to do with the bundle of clothing obstructing my line of sight as I negotiated some stairs.

That’s when I suddenly pictured Shaunna Noble storming out of Kyle Petersen’s movie set trailer and throwing all his clothes to the fans gathered nearby. And as I folded, hung up and put away the clean laundry, I kept replaying that picture and adding more and more elements to it until an entire scene was completely formed in my imagination.

Morgan and Jennifer: If you could change into any animal (and back) what animal would it be and why?

N. Michaels:  If we’re talking about a real animal, it would be a black panther.

black panther

Reason: I’ve always loved cats, big or small. It’s the first place I’d run to when I’d go to the zoo, and as a child, I used to sneak stray cats and kittens into our home.

But why the black panther in particular?

That’s because when my late grandfather saw me as a baby for the first time he called me, Miegera, which in Russian slang means wild and rebellious woman, and for some unknown reason, the word reminds me of Bagheera, the black panther (black Indian leopard) who is a fictional character in Rudyard Kipling’s Mowgli stories in The Jungle Book (coll. 1894) and The Second Jungle Book (coll. 1895).

If we’re talking about a mythical creature, I’d have to choose the Phoenix (which is actually one of the symbols for my astrologic sign, Scorpio.)

phoenix

Reason: immortality and the ability to reinvent myself over and over again. To know with confidence that even after my fire has burned bright and I’m all but ashes, I will be reborn wiser and stronger.

N. Michaels: If you both could choose only one superpower, what would it be?

Morgan: At first, I wanted to pick invisibility but there’s no way to convince you people that it’s not to watch girls undress, so I’m picking invulnerability. If I can’t get hurt, there’s not much I couldn’t or wouldn’t do for mankind.

Jennifer: I thought of the ability to fly, but then I remembered I’m afraid of heights and realized that power would likely end up being wasted on me. So, instead I’d have to say the ability to see the future. I feel more comfortable when I know how things stand. I don’t do well having to wallow in the unknown.

N. Michaels: What was your first impression of each other when you first met?

Morgan: The first thing I liked about Jennifer was her style. She was the kind of girl who wore a pony tail (or for those of you who remember, a banana clip) and converse sneakers. Her blonde hair had a curly Q thing going for it in the front that always reminded me of Egon’s hair in the Ghostbusters cartoon. She was easy to smile and fun to dance with, and by the end of the night I was in love.

Jennifer: The night we met, Morgan was literally the first person I noticed when I walked in the room. He was exuberant and clearly the life of the party. I was nursing a broken heart at the time and had to be literally dragged out of the house by my friend when she suggested a night out. When she saw that I’d noticed Morgan, she made sure we were introduced within the hour. Once we began talking it was clear that he was intelligent, funny as hell and a swoon-worthy gentleman. By the time I returned home, I knew I’d met someone special.

Morgan and Jennifer: We see that (like Jennifer) you a wife, a mother and work full-time. How do you juggle all of this and find time for writing too? Maybe we could trade time management tips.

N. Michaels: At the time of writing Emerald Eyes I was a stay at home mom. I have trust issues when it comes to nannies and babysitters so I decided to stay home with them until they were big enough to go to daycare. I’m not passing judgment on those who do have nannies and babysitters, to each their own.

Currently, I am working full time (I’m actually typing this while on the bus on my way to Manhattan) and I usually write on the bus and on my days off. My full time job is very demanding and unfortunately, it slowed down my progress with Onyx Heart. I’d like to thank all my readers and friends who have been hounding me with emails and private messages regarding Onyx Heart’s release date, thank you for being so freaking wonderful, patient and supportive. ♡

So how do I juggle it all? I have an amazing mom and in-laws, who love my children as much I do. My husband learned to step in and take over when I can’t. Their help is how I manage to stay sane.

Thank you again for having me and for the lovely questions. I had a wonderful time! :)

As always, thank you!
With love,
N.

While I juggle my two kids, husband, writing, and my new full-time job I wanted to do a giveaway. I am so grateful for your patience and understanding regarding Onyx Heart. I know it’s taking me a while, compared to other authors who write a new book every 2-3 months or so. But please remember that every author is unique and different. THANK YOU for not giving up on me and letting me know that Onyx Heart is anticipated by you. It truly makes my day and warms my heart. I love you guys for being so encouraging and loving. Let’s Get Personal

Hey, all. :)

This post will be pretty personal as you can guess by the title. I want to share a big piece of myself with you today.

Ready?

Here we go…

For those of you who follow me on Twitter and Facebook, you might’ve seen me mention, R.

Some of you were even trying to plan my bridal shower and wedding and that made me smile. :)

But there’s really no need for that. R and I have been happily married for 6 years now, so please cancel those male strippers! LOL

Here we are…

photo

We’ve also been blessed with two beautiful children.

Our daughter, M, who turned 4 in February and our son, J, who will turn 3 in July. They both stay home with me (can’t wait for pre-k!) and keep me busy. :)

Be patient, my lovelies. I am writing Onyx Heart. Slowly but surely, we’ll get there. ;)

Yours,

N.

Character Interview and GIVEAWAY!

Sorry for posting this late! But to make it up to you, I’ve also included a giveaway. That’s right my 1st GIVEAWAY!

Somehow I managed to get Eric, Katherine and even Eliza to sit down and chat with me for a short while. I asked them questions that were submitted by you and some questions of my own.

Without further ado, let us begin. ;)

Eric

I’m sitting on a couch in Eric’s apartment. He looks like a shell of himself. His hair is disheveled and his strong jaw has scruff. A lot of it. He’s wearing jeans and a white V neck T-shirt.

“Good afternoon, Eric. Thank you for agreeing to answer a few questions from the readers and me.”

Eric nods slightly, staring at the floor with empty eyes.

“How are you holding up?”

Eric sighs heavily then reclines back, placing his hands on his knees. “I’m not sure.” He mutters and lift his gaze to mine. I see so much sadness in them. Sadness and regret.

I nod and then look at the list of questions. ”Many readers ask the same question, ‘Why can’t Eric just kick Eliza to the curb?’”

Eric exhales harshly and runs his hands on his face. “I’m done with her,” he snaps.

“That wasn’t an answer.”

He glares at me but when he sees that I’m not going to back down, he sighs. “You need to understand, Eliza was the only woman who could handle my aggression. Until, Katherine. I’ve known Eliza for years. She wasn’t just a woman I fucked. She helped me cope with my father’s death and with my fear of being sexually involved with a woman because I feared I’d hurt her. She was my friend.”

“Okay, next question. Have you seen Katherine since the accident?”

Eric’s head lowers as his eyes close with what looks like a mix of exhaustion and pain. He looks like he hasn’t slept a wink.

“I have… from afar. She won’t let me get anywhere near her.”

Eric’s cell phone buzzes on the table between us. He picks it up and frowns at the screen before turning that breathtaking gaze at me. “I’m sorry, I need to take this.”

I open my mouth to object, but before I can inhale, Eric’s is marching away from his living room. A minute later he returns wearing a baseball cap that’s pulled low on his face, a jacket and shoes.

“I’m sorry, I need to leave. Please show yourself out.” He turns around and leaves me all alone in his apartment.

Eliza

I take a deep breath before opening the hotel’s door and welcoming Eliza into my room.

Eliza’s crimson stained lips curl into a smile and she opens her arms before engulfing me into a hug.

“N. How lovely to see you.” She purrs.

“Yeah, you too.” I pat her back awkwardly before moving out of her arms. “Let’s sit down.” I gesture to the sitting area.

After we’re settled, Eliza pick a red apple out of the fruit basket and takes a bite.

“How have you been, Eliza?”

“Have you seen Eric?” She pins me with a focused stare.

I smile, “I’m not here to answer your questions, Eliza.”

A few moments of silence pass by.

“I’ve been missing my man.” She finally answers before taking another bite.

“I doubt Eric is anybody’s man right now.” I mumble.

“What?” She frowns.

“I said, let’s begin. Sheri asks, ‘Why is Eliza so cold-hearted?’”

Eliza’s eyes narrow and her nostrils flare. She smoothes her hand over her hair before answering. “I’m not cold-hearted. I love Eric and I proved to his pathetic redhead that I was right, Eric is mine. A cold heart can’t love, can it?”

“Of course it can. But the love it shows hurts the people around it.”

“Well, I do not posses such a heart. I was merely protective of what’s mine.”

“In a cruel and hurtful way.” I say calmly.

“All is fair in love and war.” She says as she crosses her legs, hiking her short skirt higher.

I look down at my questions.

“Heather would like to know where her… umm… shoe… is.” I mash my lips together tightly to stop the bubbling laughter that is stuck in my throat.

“What?” Eliza snaps, frowning.

I swallow the laughter before leveling my eyes with hers, then I ask again, “Her shoe. Where is it?”

Eliza’s face contours into a grimace as she processes what I’ve said. The moment her eyes flash back to mine, hot with anger, I know she understood the meaning.

“Fuck you.” She hisses before standing up abruptly and turning on her heel, slamming the door behind herself.

I laugh quietly as I scribble my plans for her.

Katherine

Laura opens the door to Katherine’s apartment with a gentle smile. ”Zakhoditi, pajalusta Please, enter.

“Spasibo Thank you.” I reply.

I walk a short distance and see Katherine sitting on her couch. With dark sunglasses. Her hair is loose around her, matching the red summer dress she’s wearing.

“Hello, Katherine.” I greet her but hear nothing in return. I glance back at Laura but find that she had gone.

“Katherine?” I ask as I sit beside her.

“You’ve got some fucking nerve showing up in my home for an interview. You should be at your home, writing. Fixing this.” She snaps, pointing at her sunglasses.

I sigh. “I am, Katherine.”

She looks away and crosses her arms over her chest, reminding me a surly child.

I decide to skip the first question. I can see how she’s been, pissed off. Not that I blame her.

“A reader wanted to know what are your ambitions in life? We know that you don’t want to follow your father in his career, so what do you want to do?”

Katherine inhales deeply and I notice her delicate hands clenching into fists. “What I want, is to be able to see. I can’t even think about anything else right now.” She sighs before continuing, “I don’t know, N. I really don’t. I need to find some peace before setting a lifetime goal and ambition.”

“Peace? In what way?”

Katherine shrugs and turns her face to the window. I know she can’t see anything but the gesture alone makes my heart ache for her.

I move on to the next question.

“Cristiane asks, ‘Why would you — a determined and strong minded woman — allow Eliza to run all over you and your relationship with Eric?’”

Katherine releases a shaky breath before answering. “I was a fool to trust… him. I was blindly in love, and now I’m blind without it. I wanted to believe that I meant more… that she…” She shakes her head and turns her face to the window again. “I don’t want to talk about this, I’m sorry.” She says with a vacant voice and I bite my lower lip from the pain she’s going through. Pain that I’m putting her through.

“There are no more questions. I’ll get back to my writing.” I place my hand on top of hers and she turns her hand, squeezing my fingers in a silent thanks.

Before Laura closes the door, I remember a question that was meant for her.

“Oh, Laura. There’s a question for you. It’s from Heather. She’s asking for one of your recipes.”

Laura smiles broadly. “Oh, that’s sweet of her. A little bird told me that she like Nutella so I’ve prepared something special for her.” She says as she hands me a folded page.

“Thank you.” I say before leaving.

March Madness Interview At SMIBOOKCLUB + Giveaway!

Another wonderful interview! This time with the lovely SMIBOOKCLUB for their March Madness feature!

Enjoy! ;)

A few months ago I was on twitter and I asked Twitter what should I read next because there was a break in my TBR /ARC list. Author N. Michaels hit me up and said “read my book”. I loved her straight forwardness and persistance. Keep in mind she sent SMIBookClub 2 review submissions but like many other blogs we have 49331931 emails and a LONG LONG LONG list of review request so very unfortunatley we aren’t always able to get to them all. But on a whim I gave Emerald Eyes a chance. I am so glad I did. I love reading work by new authors. Especially ones like N. Michaels that are receptive to feedback and eager to interact with readers. I am so excited that she was able to be interviewed for March Madness.SMIBooKCluber’s I hope you enjoy this interview and give Emerald Eyes a chance.- Juewelz xo

Tell us 5 things that make you N. Michaels Awesome.

Haha! Let me get my white hat on… There, it’s on.
1) I’m a tomboy who grew up to be a lady.
2) I speak Russian among other languages.
3) I’m a former performing dancer (not famous).
4) I like to help when I can.
5) I make people up. ;)

I have read your debut novel Emerald Eyes and enjoyed it. Please tell us what inspired this story line?

Thank you for reading Emerald Eyes. I’m so happy you liked it. :)

The idea of Emerald Eyes began after the 50 Shades Of Grey hype. I read and loved 50 Shades (and I’m super excited for the movie!) After reading 50 Shades Of Grey, I moved on to other books and every book I’ve read had a man who was dominant or had a domineering personality  and a female who was naive, shy and honestly, lacks a backbone. I was tired of reading the same formula in different books, maybe because I, myself am very opinionated and not afraid tell a man to get off his high horse. Anyway, I was talking to my best friend who wanted to know how was the latest book I’ve read and I just told her that was very similar to 50 Shades. I told her I wanted to read something different, that I wanted rewrite that book and give it a woman who could stand up for herself and not succumb to everything the hero was demanding. My best friend gave me the nudge to write my own story with that fierce woman I had in mind and that’s when Katherine showed up, took my hand sat me down in front of my laptop and began telling me her story.

You told me previously on twitter that Sylvia Day was one of your inspirations. What else inspires you when writing?

In my eyes, Sylvia can do no wrong. (I AGREE lol)  I’ve read every book of hers, even the historical ones – I don’t read historical romances – and I loved every book by her. She writes with some sort of magic, it just pulls you right in. My inspiration comes mostly from music, life experiences (my own or others), and my imagination. I often play out the scenes that pop into my head (I blame drama class, lol) to connect better to what the character is feeling at that moment. I look insane but hey, whatever works, right?

What are you currently reading?

I’m reading and enjoying The Prince by Tiffany Reisz. I love Søren, Kingsley, and Nora. Tiff writes beautifully. I’m captivated by the story and the characters.

Based off your tweets you are also into fashion particularly shoes they say you can learn a lot about woman based on her shoes. Tell us about your shoe collection (provide pictures if you can).

Hahaha… My shoe collection is, um, extensive. I like variety and quality. I like high heels (4 inch and higher) but I also need to be able to walk and dance in them, so they need to be somewhat comfortable. Here are some of my favorites.
1) Mary-Janes.
2) Summer sandals.
3) Booties
4) Booties (I love ankle boots… lol)
5) My LV peeptoes. I take good care of them.

How has the indie/self publishing community welcomed you. What have you enjoyed and learned from so far as a new author?

The self publishing community has been very welcoming and nice. I’ve learned a lot from fellow authors and from awesome bloggers such as yourself. :)

My most enjoyable moments are when I’m working with bloggers and connecting with my readers on Twitter and Facebook.
It’s rewarding and humbling to see people who want to help you make your dream come true and I am grateful to each blogger and reader who has taken his/her time to support me. It means more than you’ll ever know. You all make it possible. Thank you.

Another thing I enjoy is authors supporting each other. I love that because we’re all doing what we love, and doing it while helping/supporting each other builds a better community for our readers and ourselves.
By the way, any author reading this, my author BFF position is currently open! Feel free to apply for the spot. ;)

What makes Emerald Eyes standout from other books in its genre ?

I believe Katherine and Eric, my hero and heroine make Emerald Eyes stand out. Like I said in the answer before, Katherine is not shy or unaware of herself and her assets. She’s confident, over-confient at times and that is not something that is popular in the genre. Usually, the heroine is meek and has no idea how gorgeous she is even though every man that comes her way immediately falls to her feet. Katherine knows she’s beautiful. She knows how to use that to her advantage and she’s not apologetic about it. She’s fierce and I love that about her.
Eric is flawed. He’s not perfect and you can see it in the book (I don’t want to spoil if for you). Just like other human men, Eric makes mistakes. He’s not the knight in shining armor, he’s merely a man finding his way out of his darkness. He’s bound to fall, but he’s also not one to stay down for long.

This is an SMIBookClub staple question tell us who is your favorite boy band? Backstreet Boys or N’Sync ?

This is a bit hard to answer because I was never really into boy bands…
When I was a teen my cousins were in love with Justin Timberlake and N’Sync, but I don’t have a preference. I think both bands are awesome in their own unique way.

Thank you so much for having me and for taking your time to read and review Emerald Eyes, and for these awesome questions!

March 12, 2014

Late Night/Early Morning

It really depends at how you look at it.

It’s 2:50 A.M

I’ve been writing all day long. I forgot to eat lunch. I took a 15 minute nap. I split my lip.

I loved every bloody minute of today. (no pun intended)

Why?

Because I’m alive. I’m doing what I love. And I’m grateful.

Now I’m going to faceplant my pillow because the keyboard is blurring and I need to pass out.

Oh, before I go… Just for you, Heather:
