Dare
the vivid performance of the presentJorie Graham
In the late '90s, this was the line I hastily wrote on a yellow post-it and stuck on a high cabinet in my cubicle. High enough to greet anyone stepping in where I had been planted - daring them right in the eye. High enough to be the phrase I looked up to - one heart beat at a time, allowing myself to be reminded.
Every now and then, the line drifts in - a mantra, a call to reverence, a spark of mischief, release from smallness.
