S.G. Basu is an aspiring potentate of a galaxy or two. She plots and plans with wondrous machines, cybernetic robots, time travelers and telekinetic adventurers, some of whom escape into the pages of her books.

Books have been an important part of Ms. Basu's life. Even before she had learned to read on her own, she spent hours wandering in the stories her mother read to her. Soon enough, she was weaving a tapestry of magical tales of her own.

Once upon a previous life on planet Earth, S.G. Basu trained to be an engineer, and her interest in science and her love of engineering shows up time and again in her books.

She shares her home with a large collection of Legos, a patient husband, and resident inspiration and entertainer, her daughter.

Follow your dreams and never give up.
Writing is not easy, it is often tiring and frustration, but it is always full of surprises and extremely rewarding. It is not all about the money I make out of writing, but the joy of seeing my words and ideas bring a smile on a reader's face. That is priceless.(less)

Aaah . . .writer's block, the ultimate nemesis of any writer!
How do I deal with it? Two ways.
First - try to avoid it from happening. It often happens to me when I spend too much time working on one writing project. So, I try to either switch between projects often or if that is not an option, I switch between sub-projects. That keeps my brain from getting bogged down. Another technique is doing free writing sessions. Every morning I spend 5-10 minutes on writing a page about a random word, phrase or thought. This keeps my mind refreshed and nimble.
Second, if the dreaded block has already settled in, I do not fight it. I stop writing and all activities related to writing and simply let the phase pass over.
Then I begin all over again.(less)

Letting Go

Children are funny little things. One moment they’re young and demanding every minute of your existence and you crave for a moment of time you could have that’s truly for yourself, and the next, they’re all grown and ready to fly away, and you’re left wishing you could go back to those days when they… Continue reading Letting Go Read more of this blog post »

Arthur Schopenhauer
“Compassion is the basis of morality.”

Bernard M. Baruch
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.”
Bernard M. Baruch

Steve Jobs
“Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
Steve Jobs

Frank Herbert
“Deep in the human unconscious is a pervasive need for a logical universe that makes sense. But the real universe is always one step beyond logic.”
Frank Herbert, Dune

Ovid
“Let others praise ancient times; I am glad I was born in these.”
