I'm only into the first two chapters of All Quiet on the Western Front, and I've found myself laughing, nodding my head, and recoiling in horror. The first chapter described the protagonist and his friends using supply boxes for toilets, and thinking they're the greatest thing in the world - I had the exact same experience. It was surreal.
Like those Fallout commercials say - war never changes.
