It is wonderful how those same words that look dead at one point can inspire you to write when your mind is free again. Sometimes when I have started writing in prose and get stuck at a point, I stop writing and approach the subject from the conclusion that I want to reach to and let my thoughts work backwards. It helps in getting a fresh perspective to the same scenario I was writing about. The most interesting thing you can do is when you are facing a serious wall of a writer’s block, stop everything and start writing about the thoughts that are blocking your mind. If your mind has gone blank, you can end up with an interesting write-up on your own state of mind at that point. It can be used later for a character in a story and at the least, it will help you to deal with yourself.(less)

Though you have to deal with the later too at some point or another.

However keeping that laziness to deal with people aside, the writing process in itself is so rewarding that it makes up for other practical drawbacks that it brings along.

When you write, you tend to chew on a thought for longer and derive more out of little things in life. It sharpens your abilities to think, introspect and empathize with others. I think those are some of the best things that writing has done for me.(less)

Getting praised by someone you look upto…

It’s with great pride and with a struggle to stay grounded, that I read these words of praise showered upon my book ‘Rhythm of Remembrance’.

I remember the first time I picked up Shubhangi Swarup’s lyrically luminous book ‘Latitudes of Longing’, I was in awe of the title, for the way it pairs a geographical term with an emotional one. Later as I absorbed…

…each word,

each phrase,

“Word – An eternal power,
In a wrong place at a wrong time,
Inflicts more pain than a weapon”
Samir Satam, Postcards From Memory

“Filled to the brim,
Spilling, Splashing all the way,
Drenching the one who carries it,
Like an overfilled vessel…
His heart bursts inside him,
While he drives past her lane.”
Samir Satam, Postcards From Memory

“The trouble begins when a group of people are conditioned in different ways to believe that their heritage is superior to that of others. That is a dangerous kind of conditioning, especially in a country like ours that has a shared heritage. However, many people have convinced themselves about the supremacy of their mythologies over the ideas that their mythologies are trying to convey. So, while our epics warn us against arrogance, we embody the same arrogance to promote our religions. In a way, that is self-defeating. Many of us are stuck up in stagnancy of pride over our heritage, without taking the pain of diving deeper in ancient ideas to understand the essence of those epics. Only if we did, we would realize that in almost every country, majority of the population is brainwashed to commit the same mistake that their holy books warned them against, while ironically celebrating mythological as well as historical figures with empty hero worship.”
Samir Satam, Litost: Sliced Stories

“All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.”
St. Francis Of Assisi, The Little Flowers of St. Francis of Assisi

“Just kidding' was exactly what people wrote when they meant every word.”
David Nicholls, One Day

“If you have to keep a secret it's because you shouldn't be doing it in the first place.”
David Nicholls, One Day

“I think reality is overrated.”
David Nicholls, One Day

“Envy was just the tax you paid on success.”
