In the Stacks
It’s storming outside and when it storms like this, I like to read. A lot. Which also means I sort of binge on book purchases… here’s what I’ve added to my TBR this week
Phoenix Reborn by J.D. Tyler
Wolf shifter and Firewalker Phoenix “Nix” Monroe has finally met his ultimate Bondmate—Alpha Pack nurse Noah Brooks. Unable to accept his own sexual identity, Nix rejects Noah despite the intense attraction he feels towards him.
By the time Nix realizes he has cast aside the love of his life, it may be too late to save Noah from a terrifying enemy…
Notes: Releases March 15th. This book is numbered 7.5 in part of a series, and I suggest you read the series in order.
Taking Shots by Toni Aleo
No matter how hard she tries, Elleanor Fisher never thinks she’s good enough, from her job to her weight to her love life. After enduring years of abuse at the hands of an ex-boyfriend, Elli has been drifting through life in a daze. Until, that is, she meets Shea Adler on a promotional shoot for the NHL’s Nashville Assassins. Before Elli knows what’s happening, the gorgeous Shea breaks the ice and shatters her world.
A brilliant athlete inside the rink, Shea Adler is tired of the life he’s living outside of it: the women, the money, the drinking. But everything changes when he meets Elli. After laying eyes on this feisty, witty, beautiful woman, he feels like he’s just taken the hardest hit of his life. No matter how skeptical she is, Shea knows they are meant to be together—if only he can convince Elli to put her insecurities aside before she misses out on a shot at love.
Notes: No joke, I bought this because the series title is The Assassins. I know nothing about hockey.
Three by RJ Scott
Is this just hot sex, or can two become three?
Mark is finding his way in life after six years in the army. He’s always wanted to write scripts for TV, and for one show in particular, Tomorrow’s Game.
Half in lust already with the lead actor Zach, he is shocked when he ends up in Zach’s bed and finds out that Zach’s co-star Rob is part of the package.
Notes: RJ Scott and a ménage… need I say more?
Broken Soldier by Jamie Lynn Miller
Sergeant Connor Finley and Sergeant Shawn Weller are dedicated soldiers working covert ops for Shadow Unit — a joint UK/US anti-terrorism task force.
Partners in the field and out, they had been through hell together for the last four years and made it through standing side by side. But when their latest undercover op to bring down an arms dealer plunges them into a world of drugs, sex and violence, Shawn must literally get in bed with the enemy in order to complete the mission. And Connor is forced to watch, helpless, as his partner is broken into pieces.
Will love be enough to put them both back together or will this be their final mission?
WARNING: Contains scenes of drug use, graphic sex and realistic situations
Notes: I love this author and the whole commando vibe here. I’m in.
The 13th Hex by Jordan L. Hawk
Romance. Magic.
Murder.
Dominic Kopecky dreamed of becoming a member of New York’s Metropolitan Witch Police—a dream dashed when he failed the test for magical aptitude. Now he spends his days drawing the hexes the MWP relies on for their investigations.
But when a murder by patent hex brings crow familiar Rook to his desk, Dominic can’t resist the chance to experience magic. And as the heat grows between Dominic and Rook, so does the danger. Because the case has been declared closed—and someone is willing to kill to keep it that way.
Notes: Releases April 5th. This is a second edition (my first time reading it) and the first in a series.
Legal Heat by Sarah Castille
Katy Sinclair made it to the brink of partnership at her high-powered law firm with hard work, dogged determination, and the ruthless self-discipline to cultivate a conservative public image. But when she follows an evasive witness into a sex club, she can’t deny herself a red-hot sexual encounter with the seductive bartender who sets her body on fire. She’s sure no one will ever know about her indiscretion—until she walks into the courtroom to find her dirty little secret is the opposing counsel in the most important case of her career.
As the managing partner in a struggling law firm, hot-shot attorney Mark Richards can’t afford any mistakes that might cost him his biggest client. Like getting involved with his beautiful, determined opponent—the mystery woman he hasn’t been able to forget. But when Katy’s quest for justice leads to death threats, Mark will sacrifice everything to protect her.
Now they’re risking their hearts…and their lives…in a race to catch a killer. Little do they know, the greatest danger lies closer to home.
Warning: The book contains explicit sex, light bondage, violence, murder, steamy shenanigans in the courtroom, naughty sexytimes in the boardroom, and an exceptionally hot hero with a versatile tie. Any objections will be overruled.
Notes: I love this author and I just found out a #2.5 is coming soon, so I want to read the whole series first.
Turncoat by Megan Derr
Dixie is a man adrift, picking away at the evildoings of the Grand Order of Defenders and the DeVine Corporation wherever he’s able. But none of it is what he really wants, and what he wants is out of reach.
Then a notorious thief crosses his path, a man with abilities that might make all the difference. With his help, Dixie can at long last return to face the people that destroyed his whole world and return that destruction tenfold.
Notes: Megan Derr is it. The first book in this series, Trick of Light, was fabulous. I can’t wait to read this one.
Gay Knights and Horny Heroes: Tales from King Arthur’s Court
by Michael Gouda
Gwene-who?
The timeless tales of King Arthur have been told throughout the ages as sterling examples of bravery, manhood, and heart-searing romance. But really, we know it’s all about the men.
Here we have a re-imagined landscape of Arthurian love stories, a place in which contests of strength become contests of foreplay, a knight’s favored squire may be his equally favored bedmate, and Lancelot is given his rightful place in history: at Arthur’s side and in his bed, for as long as the two shall live.
Come, gentle readers, and venture into the world of yore, where men were men, and so are their lovers, and every warrior loves a good joust! Welcome to the world of Gay Knights and Horny Heroes—God save the King! (And the man at his side!)
Notes: I am obsessed with all things Aurthurian. I’m unsure how I ended up missing this treat, but I’ve remedied it now. I shall be reading very soon.
Stray by Kari Gregg
With a lycan father, a human mother, and the human side of his genetic makeup dominant, Luke left his birth pack to try living among humans, but he felt awkward and uncomfortable isolated from the culture that raised him. He’s still searching for where he fits in.
After losing his family in a vicious attack, Dean rebuilt his pack by accepting loners, rejects, other survivors, and even ferals. He and his ragtag group of strays made a warm and welcoming home.
Luke believes he’s finally found where he belongs. Meddling parents and a neighbor who isn’t as human as he seems won’t sway him. Luke wants Dean to take in one last stray…him.
Content Warning: Shifter knotting/tying, mating heats (yes, plural), and jerky!
Notes: She’s back, ladies and gentlemen! I can’t wait to read Gregg’s newest book. It looks like tons of fun (and mating heats).
A Bear Walks into a Bar by Eden Winters
It takes one strong alpha with a tight grip to keep a mountain full of shifters under control. Sawyer Ballantine’s contending with an uppity wolf leader and a herd of shifter elk bound and determined to take over. He might be the lone bear on the mountain, but he’s not going to allow another four shifters to just move in, especially not when they whiff of power. They’ll either be his in all ways, or they’ll be gone.
Dillon, Jerry, Kevin, and Brad have no one but each other since their groups kicked them out. The young bear, wolves, and fox make a merry ménage, pooling their meager skills and serving beer. They’ve stumbled into more than they understand, caught in the dispute between the Urso of Ballantine Mountain and the elk. But winter’s setting in, and they don’t know how to keep Dillon safe for hibernation.
And then a bear walks into their bar.
Notes: Eden, shifters, bears… I’m in.
Protecting His Witch by Zoe Forward
Veterinarian Kat Ramsey hasn’t a clue that she’s a witch. Sure, she can read minds, and there’s the whole “dimension-hopping” issue that she can’t quite control, but Kat is determined to keep things normal. That is, until she accidentally hops into the Otherworld, and runs smack into Matthew Ryan?the seriously hot one-night stand from years ago who shoved her out of his dorm. Naked.
And there’s the tiny matter of the curse she gave him.
May you never find satisfaction with another woman. Billionaire and former druid Matthew Ryan hasn’t forgotten the curse, or the witch who gave it to him. Kat’s unexpected return means the curse will finally be broken. Unfortunately, his libido has other ideas?like how to get her back into his bed one last time. But far more worrying is his suspicion that Kat is the seventh Pleiades witch. Because while he’s turned his back on his druidic ways, he’s still bound to protect the woman who made his life hell…
The last thing he wanted was to fall for a witch…
Notes: I’m kind of on an urban fantasy kick lately (I blame Lexi). This one caught my eye.
So now, back to work and maybe when I finish a chapter or two I’ll reward myself with time to read.

What I Love (in audio)
Audiobooks are not new but we’ve seen a kick in interest over the past couple of years and, yes, I was one of those who found myself interested. In my head, as I read, characters take on life with personalities of their own, inflections that are their own. But to hear someone else’s take on those characters, the stories, the inflections… that’s something altogether different and fun.
Here are some of my favorite audiobooks with some of my favorite narrators:
Love Lessons by Heidi Cullinan
Narrated by Iggy Toma
Love doesn’t come with a syllabus. Kelly Davidson has waited what seems like forever to graduate high school and get out of his small-minded, small town. But when he arrives at Hope University, he quickly realizes finding his Prince Charming isn’t so easy. Everyone here is already out. In fact, Kelly could be the only virgin on campus. Worst of all, he’s landed the charming, handsome, gay campus Casanova as a roommate, whose bed might as well be equipped with a revolving door.
Walter Lucas doesn’t believe in storybook love. Everyone is better off having as much fun as possible with as many people as possible – except his shy, sad little sack of a roommate is seriously screwing up his world view. As Walter sets out to lure Kelly out of his shell, staying just friends is harder than he anticipated. He discovers love is a crash course in determination. To make the grade, he’ll have to finally show up for class – and overcome his own private fear that love was never meant to last.
Warning: This story contains lingering glances, milder than usual sexual content for this author, and a steamy dance-floor kiss. Story has no dairy or egg content, but may contain almonds.
This was my first foray into audio, and I have to tell you I fell for this narrator immediately. I’m so head over heels that I begged to have him read Prickly Business. So for me, the combination of storyteller and storyline is pertinent and this combination of Iggy Toma and Heidi Cullinan is fabulous! Everything about this story (especially Kelly and his Disney obsession) speaks to me. Add in Toma’s fantastic voices and pacing and this story (as well as the entire series) is a winner.
Shock & Awe by Abigail Roux
Narrated by Brock Thompson
After barely surviving a shootout in New Orleans, Sidewinder medic Kelly Abbott has to suffer through a month of recovery before he can return home to Colorado. He’s not surprised when fellow Sidewinder Nick O’Flaherty stays with him in New Orleans. Nor is he surprised when Nick travels home with him to help him get back on his feet – after all, years on the same Marine Force Recon team bonded the men in ways that only bleeding for a brother can. He’s very surprised, though, when Nick humors his moment of curiosity and kisses him.
Nick knows all of Kelly’s quirks and caprices, so the kiss was a low-risk move on his part…or so he thought. But what should’ve been a simple moment unleashes a flood of confusing emotions and urges that neither man is prepared to address. Now, Kelly and Nick must figure out what they mean to each other – friends and brothers in arms or something even deeper – before the past can come back to ruin their tenuous future.
For those of you (like me) who love Roux’s Cut & Run series as well as the Sidewinders series, let me introduce you to the audiobooks that give life to your favorite characters in a new way. While I love absolutely every book in both series, Shock & Awe holds a different place in my heart because it’s romance to the core. Don’t get me wrong, I love the adventure and mystery of this world, but to watch Kelly and Nick fall in love within the confines of one setting without crazy killers on the loose is special to me. In combination with this narrator, this audiobook is a definite winner.
Knight by Kristen Ashley
Narrated by Savannah Richards
Anya Gage has learned that to get anything good in life, you have to work for it. She has no expectations, no dreams. Then she finds herself at a party where she doesn’t want to be, and she meets Knight. Knight Sebring knows who he is, what he wants, and what he likes. And he gets it. But he never expected something as sweet as Anya Gage to wander into his bedroom during a party he did not expect to be having to borrow his phone. Knight tries to leave Anya to the life she deserves, with white picket fences and a man who watches football on Sundays – good, normal, and clean. But when Anya comes to his nightclub and finds herself in a situation, he knows someone has to look after her. He can’t fight it anymore and decides that someone will be him. Knight teaches Anya that just as with the bad, in life you should also expect the good. And he teaches her this by giving it to her. But Knight has a dark past, and just as he desires Anya for exactly who she is, he fears that when she finds out exactly the man he has become and always intends to be, she’ll leave him for good, normal, and clean.
For those of you who don’t know, sometimes I read m/f (and listen to it). I’m head over heels for everything Kristen Ashley, as in totally obsessed. So when I happened upon Knight in audio, I grabbed it. I knew I already loved the story because I’ve read it before, but this is the first audiobook I’ve listened to with a female narrator, and I absolutely adore Savannah Richards’s tone and intonation. She’s engaging and fun to listen to. Since I’ve listened to this book, I’ve bought like four more of her narrations based solely on the fact that Richards is the narrator.
Murder & Mayhem by Rhys Ford
Narrated by Greg Tremblay
Former cat burglar Rook Stevens stole many a priceless thing in the past, but he’s never been accused of taking a life – until now. It was one thing to find a former associate inside Potter’s Field, his pop culture memorabilia shop, but quite another to stumble across her dead body.
Detective Dante Montoya thought he’d never see Rook Stevens again – not after his former partner falsified evidence to entrap the jewelry thief and Stevens walked off scot-free. So when he tackled a fleeing murder suspect, Dante was shocked to discover the blood-covered man was none other than the thief he’d fought to put in prison and who still makes his blood sing.
Rook is determined to shake loose the murder charge against him, even if it means putting distance between him and the rugged Cuban-Mexican detective who brought him down. If one dead con artist wasn’t bad enough, others soon follow, and as the bodies pile up around Rook’s feet, he’s forced to reach out to the last man he’d expect to believe in his innocence – and the only man who’s ever gotten under Rook’s skin.
Is there any reason to not listen to the Rhys Ford/Greg Tremblay partnership? The simple answer to that is no. Not only is this story fantastic in all aspects, but Tremblay gives it a new life. I love Rook and Dante and now I love their voices.
Alpha Trine by Lexi Ander
Narrated by Michael Stellman
The sole survivor on a science vessel adrift in deep space, Zeus was adopted by the Emperor and Empress of the Mar’Sani, though he is both human and blind, and seen by most as unfit to join the royal family. Though they were able to repair his vision, Zeus does not trust his eyes and the nobles of his parents’ court refuse to ever trust a frail human.
Dargon Kal-Turak, along with his symbiote and lover Alpha, command one of the most dangerous ships in the stars. Narrowly escaping a trap, they dock in a space port to make repairs, but find that the Psonics hunting them are closing in fast. In desperation they kidnap the port master mechanic, unaware that the man they’ve brought on board is more than he seems, and will bring far more upheaval to their ship, their lives, and the stars than any of them could have imagined.
I have literally read every version of this book, from its inception as a prompt story to its lengthier, more involved and adventurous story. I absolutely adore Zeus, Dargon, and Alpha. I was sure that nothing could make this story even better. I was wrong, because this narrator transforms an already amazing story into something perfect. Also, when you get this book you’re gonna want to pick up Striker, the second book in this story… ditto on everything I’ve said about book one for book two.
Rock Addiction by Nalini Singh
Narrated by Justine O. Keef
Molly Webster has always followed the rules. After an ugly scandal tore apart her childhood and made her the focus of the media’s harsh spotlight, she vowed to live an ordinary life. No fame. No impropriety. No pain. Then she meets Zachary Fox, a tattooed bad-boy rocker with a voice like whiskey and sin and a touch that could become an addiction.
Fox promises scorching heat and dangerous pleasure, coaxing Molly to extend their one-night stand into a one-month fling. After that he’ll be gone forever, his life never again intersecting with her own. Sex and sin and sensual indulgence, all with an expiration date. No ties, no regrets. Too late Molly realizes it isn’t only her body that’s become addicted to Fox but her heart….
Another of my m/f weaknesses is anything Nalini Singh. Her Rock series is an autobuy for me. So when I saw this in audio, I had to have. So I had. And I loved. Molly and Zachary are hot as it is. Given life by Keef, they are scorching. This book by itself is beyond fantastic. In audio, it’s better than.
Hell & Highwater by Charlie Cochet
Narrated by Mark Westfield
When homicide detective Dexter J. Daley’s testimony helps send his partner away for murder, the consequences – and the media frenzy – aren’t far behind. He soon finds himself sans boyfriend, sans friends, and, after an unpleasant encounter in a parking garage after the trial, he’s lucky he doesn’t find himself sans teeth. Dex fears he’ll get transferred from the Human Police Force’s Sixth Precinct, or worse, get dismissed. Instead, his adoptive father – a sergeant at the Therian-Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron otherwise known as the THIRDS – pulls a few strings, and Dex gets recruited as a Defense Agent.
Dex is determined to get his life back on track and eager to get started in his new job. But his first meeting with Team Leader Sloane Brodie, who also happens to be his new jaguar Therian partner, turns disastrous. When the team is called to investigate the murders of three HumaniTherian activists, it soon becomes clear to Dex that getting his partner and the rest of the tightknit team to accept him will be a lot harder than catching the killer – and every bit as dangerous.
My love of Dex and Sloane knows no bounds. And to hear the story,

On the dial
Friday is here! And with it is the music that will lead me into the weekend. I love music—all sorts. Here are my favorites for the week
https://open.spotify.com/user/1256664192/playlist/4YWD3UXcus7wtUO7ebgqIN
My featured artist (you’ll find three of my favorites in this playlist but there are so many more) is Johnnyswim.
Johnnyswim is a duo made up of married couple Abner Ramirez and Amanda Sudano (daughter of Donna Summer). Their sound is folksy, bluesy, easy listening pop. I love it. They’re fun and their music speaks to me. It’s emotional and perfect. I can listen to them on repeat all day long.
I’d love to hear about some of your favorite artists.

In the stacks
So many books, not enough time. Y’all should see my TBR. It’s insane. Nevertheless, there are so many I want to read.
Here are some I have at the top of my list.
Nick Sebring has issues. Born feeling like an outsider in his own family, growing up under the shadow of a brother who could do anything, Nick isn’t that great of a guy. But when this culminates with Nick lashing out to hurt his brother through the woman he loves, Nick turns inward and makes some decisions about the man he intends to be.
And as he does this, he falls in love and truly learns the man that he’s grown to be.
When his love is murdered right before Nick’s eyes, Nick knows he has to avenge her. He knows how he’s going to avenge her. And he has no qualms using Olivia Shade to exact that vengeance.
Olivia Shade has grown up on the outside of her family too. Her problem is that they don’t want her outside. They want her all the way in, right under their thumbs. She pays the price for seeking escape and learns her lesson—she’ll never see a dawn where she wakes up free.
Then she meets Nick Sebring, and even as she fights it, the hope that died years ago starts to blossom. She can find love. She can have a man of her own. She can be happy. She can be free.
Olivia hopes while Nick schemes.
However, as Nick peels back the layers of all that is Olivia Shade, he finds something surprising. He understands its fragility. He falls in love with its beauty. He seeks to protect it.
But he forgets to protect his Livvie from one thing: Nick Sebring.
Notes: Sebring is the fifth and final book in the Unfinished Heroes series and should be read in order. Also, Nick was introduced in the first book and I wanted to kick him in the face. Since then he’s popped up throughout the series, so now I’m dying to find out how he finds his own HEA.

His Favorite Color is Blood by K.A. Merikan
— When life gives you blood, make mayhem. —
Grim. Assassin. Leather-clad sex god. Has the most unusual taste in men.
Misha. Mutilated. Afraid. Will never trust again.
Grim is a bloodthirsty killer, and he owns it. Gay in a world of outlaw bikers, he firmly stands his ground if anyone dares to cross him. He takes pleasure in showing homophobes their place and fucking his way through a life of carnage.
But there is a part of him always aching for something he cannot get. When by chance he saves the most perfect guy he’s ever met, he is not about to let him go. Even if it means he needs to smother his broken bird.
When a masked, bloodstained man rescues Misha from captivity, he doesn’t know if he should thank the menacing stranger or stab him and run. Grim is not the kind of man who takes no for an answer, and Misha might now be in more danger than when he was trapped as a sex slave.
Misha cannot deny though that Grim is as alluring as he is frightening, and once Misha realizes what power his body holds over Grim, he understands that taming the beast of a man could be within his reach.
But any possibility of a future together is like a house of cards when Zero, the sadistic crime lord who destroyed Misha’s life, sets out to get him back.
Will the ruthless biker assassin at Misha’s side be enough to conquer the monsters from his past?

Strong Signal by Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell
I was counting down the months until the end of my deployment. My days were spent working on military vehicles, and I spent my nights playing video games that would distract me until I could leave Staff Sergeant Garrett Reid behind.
That was when I met him: Kai Bannon, a fellow gamer with a famous stream channel.
I never expected to become fixated on someone who’d initially been a rival. And I’d never expected someone who oozed charm to notice me—a guy known for his brutal honesty and scowl. I hadn’t planned for our online friendship to turn into something that kept me up at night—hours of chatting evolving into filthy webcam sessions.
But it did. And now I can’t stop thinking about him. In my mind, our real life meeting is perfect. We kiss, we fall into bed, and it’s love at first sight.
Except, like most things in my life, it doesn’t go as planned.

Love, adventure and a steaming good time.
As the French army leader’s bastard son, Cornelius Stevens enjoys a great deal of latitude. But when he saves an enemy soldier using clockwork parts, he’s well aware he risks hanging for treason. That doesn’t worry him half as much, however, as the realization he’s falling for his patient.
Johann Berger never expected to survive his regiment’s suicide attack on Calais, much less wake up with mechanical parts. To avoid discovery, he’s forced to hide in plain sight as Cornelius’s lover—a role Johann finds himself taking to surprisingly well.
When a threat is made on Cornelius’s life, Johann learns the secret of the device implanted in his chest—a mythical weapon both warring countries would kill to obtain. Caught up in a political frenzy, in league with pirates, dodging rogue spies, mobsters and princesses with deadly parasols, Cornelius and Johann have no time to contemplate how they ended up in this mess. All they know is, the only way out is together—or not at all.

What I love…
HAPPY LEAP YEAR!!
I know it’s been a bit since I’ve blogged… gah… these past few months have been hectic. But I have been working, slow and steady, and I’ve been reading. So here are some of the things I’ve read recently that I’ve been head over heels for.
Damianos of Akielos has returned.
His identity now revealed, Damen must face his master Prince Laurent as Damianos of Akielos, the man Laurent has sworn to kill.
On the brink of a momentous battle, the future of both their countries hangs in the balance. In the south, Kastor’s forces are massing. In the north, the Regent’s armies are mobilising for war. Damen’s only hope of reclaiming his throne is to fight together with Laurent against their usurpers.
Forced into an uneasy alliance the two princes journey deep into Akielos, where they face their most dangerous opposition yet. But even if the fragile trust they have built survives the revelation of Damen’s identity – can it stand against the Regent’s final, deadly play for the throne?
Notes: This is the final book in Pacat’s The Captive Prince trilogy. The entire series is freaking amazing.. If you have not read, READ!

Thrown into inauspicious circumstances, with years of practice, Finnie bests the challenges and digs into her adventure. But at the same time Frey plunges Finnie into a web of political intrigue that includes assassination plots, poison, magic, mystery and… dragons.
Notes: I adore Kristen Ashley’s work and as I’ve made my way through all of it, I found that she has a fantasy series. This is book one in the Fantasyland series. It’s so much fun.

All Rath wants is a quiet, peaceful life. Unfortunately, his father brings him too much trouble—and too many debts to pay—for that to ever be possible. When the local crime lord drags Rath out of bed and tells him he has three days to pay his father’s latest debt, Rath doesn’t know what to do. There’s no way to come up with so much money in so little time.

Some Assembly Required by Lex Chase and Bru Baker
Everyone wishes they were dead when wandering the purgatory of a home furnishings store, but these guys actually are.
Benji Goss is the quintessential good guy. When his boyfriend dumps him and moves out, Benji obligingly keeps the cat—even though he’s allergic—because his ex’s new place doesn’t accept pets. He’s always joked the cat would be the death of him, but not in a way he expects when a feline mishap crushes him under a DEL TORO bookcase.
Snarky loner Patrick Bryant is in such a rut he barely remembers the life he used to lead. The last thing he recalls is being decapitated by a DEL TORO bookcase in a freak accident. As a spiritual CASA resident, he haunts the aisles of affordable Italian furniture, assisting fellow spirits in moving on to their final destinations.
When Benji appears in the CASA café, Patrick considers the naïve spirit just the man to cure his boredom. Benji’s relentless optimism chips away at Patrick’s sarcasm, making him question if there’s something beyond what he can see. But the heart is like CASA furniture—there’s always some assembly required.
Notes: A modern day romantic ghost story. I loved Benji and Patrick’s love story. It’s so much fun.

The last person forensic pathologist Sam McKenna expects to see at pub night is Adam, the guy who made his life hell in high school. The attraction is instant, but Adam isn’t gay and Sam has no interest in pursuing him. Still, the leftover animosity from their teenage years isn’t enough to extinguish the lust growing between them. After both are called to the scene of a horrific murder, Adam admits he’s not as straight as he led Sam to believe and they seek comfort and distraction in each other’s arms. One night becomes many as the murder investigation intensifies, but when Adam is faced with losing Sam, he is forced to make a choice: to break his silence, or to give up everything for the job he loves.
Notes: This is a fabulous story of enemies to lovers and in the closet love. It’s a mystery and a love story and nothing here is easy. The struggle in finding love and keeping it is intense and exciting in this book. A must read.

In the Works
My life has been a bit insane these days, but I am working… however slow. Currently I have several things in the works. I’m finishing up a story—Devil’s Heart—with Lexi Ander. I’m so excited about this series we’re putting together. It’s an urban fantasy motorcycle club romance. Goblins, fae, elves, and sooooo much more.
I’m also working on my Arkansas entry for the Dreamspinner Press States of Love collection. There’s an amazing man out there who is so much inspiration for me who has allowed me to use him as my subject for this book. I cannot wait to get this story down on paper. Much love to my very own Marco.
After I finish that novella, Lexi and I will be starting on book two or our Devil’s Dawn MC series. I also have a knight arranged marriage fantasy novel I have in mind, tentatively titled Knight Apparent. This was inspired by the lovely Megan Derr, who is full of plot bunnies.
Next up will be my first Dreamspun Desires story in which a hotel magnate meets his match. After that… who knows. I have several stories outlined and waiting their turn. So we’ll see. Somewhere in there, I need to get my Christmas story on paper. And probably (maybe) a M/M Goodreads story if I have time.
In the meantime, I thought I’d drop a few lines from Devil’s Heart.
“Enjoy the show?”
In an instant, Énna stilled. His gazed dropped to study the green skin beneath his palms.
“Let me go.” Fear bled into anger and Énna jerked his shoulders to get away from Cookie’s hold.
“That really what you want, babe?” Cookie skimmed his nose along the back of Énna’s neck. “Cuz I don’t think it is. What I think is you liked what you saw so much you want to try it.”
Énna’s fucking body betrayed him when his cock twitched and he fought a tremor of desire. Because maybe… just maybe if Cookie wasn’t such an asshole. Maybe if he didn’t want to use Énna—and Énna had to remind himself, that yes, all the club wanted was to use him—that perhaps Énna could give in, give himself over. For once. He both loved and hated that Cookie brought that out in him.
“Yes,” he rasped. “I’m positive. Now, get your hands off me. They smell like skank and who knows where else they’ve been?”
“Don’t let Conah hear you say that.” Cookie made a dark sound that coursed through Énna, and then he tightened his grip, inhaling long and sensuous, as if breathing Énna in. “Smell fucking good, babe.”
Furious, Énna pushed at Cookie’s hold again, digging his fingers into the muscular forearm beneath his grip. “Don’t talk to me about your whore.”
He hadn’t meant to say that, but the last comment had thrown Énna off guard. Confusion fed his frustration as his body and mind warred over Cookie’s actions and his words. He kicked out catching Cookie’s shin.
“Fucking ow.” Cookie’s shook Énna. “Stop moving.”
“Let. Me. Go!”
“No.” That one word snapped out in Cookie’s deep baritone sounded more like a declaration than a protestation. “Do you really want to spend the rest of your life on your goddamn knees?” All of a sudden, Cookie sounded serious and angry at the same time. Énna stopped fighting and listened. “Be my fucking guest.”
Although he knew Cookie meant otherwise, his conflicted emotions and mind played scenes of Énna kneeling, looking up at Cookie as he swallowed his thick cock, on all fours as Cookie pounded into him, straddling Cookie’s hips as he rode the hell out of Cookie.
“Let me fucking help you,” Cookie demanded, his voice still gruff and raspy, as if he ordering Énna instead of asking would shatter Énna’s resistance.
Énna tried not to give in to the way Cookie slackened his hold as if to cradle him, but he knew continuing the battle was hopeless, had been since he crossed into Devil’s territory.
His shoulders slumped and he squeezed his eyes shut when he said, “Plants. My magick works well in a garden, with food. I… I can help there.”
Silence hung between them for a moment before Cookie asked, “How?”
Énna shook his head. “I can’t explain it. I just do. I can increase the crops, keep them healthy, and give the club not only enough to provide for the community but to sell or provide for others as well.”
His chest ached with each word he spoke. The thought of being another cash cow, of being shackled by someone else’s greed destroyed a piece of him and the magick coiled beneath his skin.
“Just…” Énna couldn’t help himself when he began to tremble and he words clogged his throat, but he pushed ahead. “Whatever happens, whatever you decide… I can’t be a prisoner. I need to…”
Gods, he hated being vulnerable and worse than that he hated begging. Letting out a shaky breath, Énna surrendered his weight to Cookie.
“You’re not a captive, babe. We’ll figure something out.”
“We’re not figuring anything out.” Seeing his chance, Énna jerked free from Cookie’s hold. He turned around and walked backward, changing his course. “I can take care of myself. I’ll figure it out.”
“You’ve done a shit job of it so far.” Cookie snorted, his face contorting into the asshole features Énna knew best.
His shoulders tensed at the jibe and he narrowed his eyes. “Don’t wait up.”
