New Blog at Honing the Blade!
For some reason, Goodreads won’t accept the RSS feed of my new blog site, so for the time being, there will be no automatic updates.
If you enjoy my posts popping up here, I encourage you to subscribe to my newsletter where you can rest assured they will reach you.
Hope to see you there,

Honing the Blade is Moving!
I’m in the process of upgrading to a better site and a better way to deliver these newsletters. I’ll be moving hosting to Ghost, and there shouldn’t be any major hiccups, but I’ll keep you all posted on the progress. I don’t want to bore you with all of the minutiae at the moment, but hopefully we’ll be fully moved by the end of September. Maybe sooner, depending on how long it takes for the domains to switch over. It’s still very much under construction, some pages unposted—Okay, that’s boring ...

August 2025: 35 things i have thought about in the last 35 days of my 35th year
Howdy, everyone,
I hope you’re all doing well. We are basically two months out from the release of The Sovereign and Fate’s Bane on September 30. If you’d like to give me a birthday present, pre-ordering or bullying your friends and enemies into pre-ordering would be a great one.
An even better one would be donating 35$£€ to one of the Palestinian fundraisers within this Writers against the War in Gaza bulletin.
Before we get into these thoughts upon my aging, reminders:

July 2025: Warmongers: The Stack
War is a tragedy. Weaving between the present and a lost past, this is a story about war and memory and the things we do when the people we love stand in the way of our dreams.

Fate’s Bane: The Music Behind the Myth + Giveaway
Hello, my friends, and welcome to another dose of ‘this is how this book came to be.’
But first! I want to say thank you to the anonymous reader who donated to keep this website and newsletter running here. I cannot adequately express how much that means to me, but I am so grateful. Thank you so so much.
Instead of an excerpt today, I want to tell you about the musical inspirations for Fate’s Bane, which just got a lovely review in Locus Magazine:
“Fate’s Bane is heartwarming and hear...

Clark Meets Clarke: Metal from Heaven Interview
Hello, my people!
I try to be a man of my word, and I am–just not always the fastest man of my word. Which is to say, I have finally finished editing the transcript for the event that I did in October with august clarke when his book Metal from Heaven came out. I have described it as a lesbian biker gang revenge story meets radium girls meets Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle. If my previous exhortations haven’t convinced you to pick up the book, hopefully our conversation will.
