The Dragonriders of Pern to be adapted for the big screen!

I know everyone has been waiting and asking for a long while to see what's going to happen with Pern and film.

Today, Copperheart made a major announcement and I couldn't be more pleased.

David Hayter, of X-Men fame (among many other films) has signed on to write the screenplay and Don Murphy, who has worked on many films including Splice and Transformers, has signed on as an executive producer.

Renate What, you're kidding? yaaaaay. First I've heard of this, but I've seriously just finished reading Dragonsdawn.. and am not coming up to Chronicles of Pern: First Fall.

I've love the dragonriders for years and years now. Perfect mix of sci-fi with a touch of fantasy.

message 16: by Randi (new)

Randi Oh man, I have been waiting for this sort of news for ages! The Menolly stories would be awesome too. I would love to be in it or even be an extra. Just seeing the sets would be amazing, especially the nesting colosseum. White Dragon too, would be awesome in film. I am so excited that I am rambling, and I am usually the quiet type! *bounces up and down in her computer chair*

message 17: by Michael (new)

Michael Please make sure they do it right :)

message 18: by Cindi (new)

Cindi Fabulous. I have been such a fan of this series, at last it is making it to the big screen.

message 19: by Briana (new)

Briana Please, please, let's hope they do it justice as it should be done. I'm really excited.

message 20: by Cody (new)

Cody Sibley this is exciting news! pernhome.com also says that David Hayter's wife, Marisa Cody, is a huge Pern fan! That's gotta be a good thing for us fans!

message 21: by Libby (new)

Libby Yay! I know there had been an attempt at a miniseries or a show about 10 years back. I would prefer a miniseries to a movie, but maybe they can figure a way to get the whole story into a 2 - 3 hour time slot. I've been pretty happy with how the Harry Potter movies came out, I can only hope the Pern movie(s) come out just as good.

message 22: by John (new)

John Parvin This is something I have been waiting for for many years, yet also somehow dreading, as has been proven with other popular book series put into motion picture (legend of the guardians, Eragon, etc...)the ones adapting the books to movies have far too much tendancy to use their own artistic licence for such things, thus destroying the storylines, while not considering for a moment that many, many more options are available with the created worlds that do not touch upon the written stories.

message 23: by AJP_Bear (new)

AJP_Bear Still be my pounding heart! (So you will survive the wait.)

Tessa wrote: "OMG I've been waiting for nearly 20 years for them to make this movie! Although in hind sight I'm glad it's going to be made now instead of when I was a kid. The special effects back then were pretty dire compared wih the effects they'll be able to manage today..."

I couldn't agree more.

message 24: by Foggygirl (new)

Foggygirl I have been waiting for this for at least 15 years! ever since I first read Dragonflight in my high school library.

message 25: by Susan (new)

Susan Southard Great news!!

message 26: by Amanda (new)

Amanda YAY finally! :) This has been such a long time coming. I've so hoped this would happen when the plans for the series were scrapped. I hope they do it justice.

message 27: by Kit (new)

Kit So awesome!! I was just considering rereading the series. AGAIN! Hahaha, good luck, Anne! I hope everything goes well!

message 28: by Tina (new)

Tina YES!!!! Finally! I'm so excited about this! I love these books so much and I really hoped they would make them into movies. I hope they do the books justice. *fingers crossed*

message 29: by Mary (new)

Mary I'm so thrilled! Can't wait!

message 30: by Ariane (new)

Ariane DragonsFlight is my ultimate FAVORITE novel! I've read it 12 years ago and no matter how many books I've read I always go back to that series. SO SO EXCITED!

message 31: by D.H. (new)

D.H. oh now WHO to play F'lar??? very exciting news! i wonder how involved Ann will be?

message 32: by Becky (new)

Becky I want unknown actors. I don't want Wolverine to play F'Lar. Nor do I want to be thinking about Star Wars or Thor when I look at Lessa. Bring in some uber talented newcomers and let them blow us away. Remember how awesome it was when Christopher Reeve donned the tights and cape? How much less impressive would a known actor have been in the role? Let's have someone new and perfect.

message 33: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Fantastic, it's about time. I'm wondering who will be cast in the roll of Lessa and F'lar. Totally excited!

message 34: by Val (new)

Val Really exciting news, though I worry a film might not do the series justice. Anne, I hope you will be as involved as JK Rowling with the Potter films and Suzanne Collins with the upcoming Hunger Games film. Pern is your world. May the film stay true to your wonderful books!
