Reviews: Author vrs Editor
Although I'm very, very grateful to receive a 3 star rating or above for my novels, I have to say that I'm a little disappointed that some of my ratings were lowered due to editing. I'm the author and I feel the reviewers should be reviewing on writing style, flow, character development, and concept of the story and not how good or bad the editor/publisher did. I had one review where the reader said she liked my book and would read more if I got a new editor. I have no control over my editors so I don't know what to say about that except that I'm sorry the reader/reviewer is willing to forego getting lost in one of my stories -when she clearly stated she enjoyed the one she read- simply because the editing isn't up to her standards. Personally, although I am with a small press, I feel they do well. The editing hiccups I've found in my novels are minor and shouldn't detract the average reader from the flow of the story. I've read plenty of books published by the big publishers like Random House, Avon, and Bantam Books and they've had their fair share of editing errors. One book actually repeated the same paragraph three times! Editors and publishers should be rated separately in my opinion. But then, that's just my opinion. :)
