The Day The Lights Turned on For Me

The day the lights turned on for me, as a writer was an amazing day. Before that time I had enjoyed writing poetry and special little things for my family and friends, but I had never considered myself one of "those people." You know the ones I'm referring to. Someone who had something to say, that might interest more than their mother or a few close friends.
It was March, 2013 and I had just turned 50. I was re-evaluating my life thus far and reflecting on the loss of my only sibling, David Troy and my father, David Lawrence two years earlier, when it hit me, that I had had a dream in life and it was simply passing me by.
I had wanted to be a published writer someday, and all of my someday's were slipping through my fingers, like water that you try to carry. Then I started asking myself, if I had what it takes to write something interesting, that somebody else would like to read? So I began to write, and guess what? People loved it. Never give up on a dream and it just might pay off for you. And I don't just mean monetarily. Somethings in life can't be measured by the almighty dollar. It is the self satisfied feeling that you get, when you accomplish a life time goal or do something that you thought was simply impossible.
So keep your chin up and reach for the stars. Who knows, maybe you will touch them.
