The Melting Writer
Summertime in many parts of the world just spells H-O-T. Living in the southeastern United States, I have had my share of three digit temperatures, droughts, floods, storms, and more humidity than is humanly possible to endure without growing gills.
This summer is shaping up to be no exception. The temperatures are flirting with the mercury threatening triple digits, and we aren't even to August yet.
Commiserate with me as I share, that where I write is miserably hot during even moderately warm weather. The time of day that I set aside for writing is, as a rule, during the summer becomes one of the times of day that any reasonable human being should be neck deep in water or locked in a freezer.
So, how do I keep my writing goals and productivity up? I shift my writing times. Instead of afternoon marathon sessions, I do late night and early morning write-ins. I plot and plan when it is hot, usually as I sit by the creek or my child's swimming pool.
I stand with you in solidarity brothers and sisters of the sweltering heat. We can do this, just bring lots of iced coffee.
