Confession: I have always wanted to be in a book club. You know, read a book, drink some wine, have some cake and then gab about how much you loved/hated everything/nothing about said book. The problem is that no one has asked me to join one.

So I’m starting my own, dammit! Well, at least I’m going to try. Therefore I happily announce Read With Riley.

Here’s how it’s going to work: For the month of October, I’m going to read a classic creepy book I’ve never read before. I’ll announce the title on the first of the month. Those of you who want to read along can do so at your leisure. Then we all get together on Twitter at 9 p.m. EST on the last Wednesday of the month – Oct. 25th, in this case – to discuss it. The Twitter chat will last an hour and can be accessed using the hashtag #ReadWithRiley.
If enough people are interested and everything goes smoothly, it could become a monthly thing beginning Jan. 1.

I plan on keeping it mostly horror novels from the 70s and 80s, but am open to suggestions. I’ve got the perfect inaugural book already picked out: SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES by Ray Bradbury.

I'm not sure why I never got around to reading it. Newer, flashier books appeared, I suppose. But now it's time. I'd love it if you read along with me and joined the Twitter chat on Oct. 25th. Until then, happy reading!
