In the very distant past, creatives received a lot of their support from wealthy patrons, who paid the creative’s expenses so that the artist could concentrate on their art.

In today’s time, most artists keep a day job and push their art to stuff they do in their free time, rather than making it a priority in their lives, because mortgages still have to be paid and food still needs to get onto the table.

But now, there is a way to crowdfund patronage! Patreon allows fans and supporters to help creatives to focus on their art by a commitment to a monthly donation (usually for as little as $1!). And, in return, most creatives give their patrons some sort of gift for their monthly stipend.
