Ananda: So, is emptiness like dying?

Saraswati ji: You may say that; and also that it is beyond both living and dying. The enlightened ones have given different names to this state—some consistent with words associated with living: presence, awareness, awakeness, aliveness, embodiment, fullness, luminosity, truth, purity, and enlightenment; and other consistent with words associated with dying: void, death, cessation, nothingness, impermanence, egolessness, no-mind, unknown, samadhi, and nirvana.
There is no single word that can express this state that is beyond all states that can be known by the mind. This is why we say emptiness is infinite presence. Souls and universes are born from emptiness with an explosion of joy. This is not an ordinary joy; it is a primordial joy made up of emptiness, which manifests all of creation. Only a silent mind can glimpse this joy because it remains hidden from a mind occupied with thoughts and emotions.
