fortune cookie

i was in a Chinese restaurant
i don’t remember the name
i ate my dinner in peace
then the fortune cookies came

"You lover will never wish to leave you”, it said

i sighed and shook my head
the cookie lied
when it said
that

My girlfriend at the time (who later went on to become a famous musician) had dumped me two days before this incident. The poem just wrote itself after i cracked open that cookie.
