The Hazel Wood and Unholy Pursuit The Devil on My Trail are eeirly similar but written years apart.

The Hazel Wood

The Devil on My Trail

The Hazel Wood appears to be a homage to "UnHoly Pursuit The Devil On My Trail" The reason I say that it's an homage is that UnHoly Pursuit was written years before Hazel Wood but the format and concept are basically the same:

1. Both mothers and daughters are always on the open road making crisscross trips across the country and barely escaping the malicious forces after them.

2.The ages of the daughters are different but their ages collide in many areas of the books.

3. Both sets of families have lived in many different places and lived with many different people.

4. Both have an old smelly car

5. Both lives in their cars.

6. Both books mentioned the daughters at age six.

7. Both main characters’ daughters are kidnapped

8. Both Bea and Hazel Wood's main character’s grandmothers are mentioned early on in the story.
Althea is a writer of occultist
Fannie is a prayer warrior. She fights occultist.

9. Althea is a reluse
Fannie is an active fighter ready to kick anything's ass that comes near her daughter or granddaughter.

10. Both grandmothers' work deal with literature.
Fannie is a teacher of literature while Althea is a writer.

11. Both sets of mother and daughter are plague by evil supernatural things. The evil things or bad luck follow them on the open road.

12. Both set of mother and daughter rarely visit their families because they don’t want the evil or bad luck following them to their families.

13. Both mothers receive a legal notices carrying bad news.

14. Both girls enter a spirit world.

15. Both girls do not know their real fathers.

16. Both mothers have failed marriages.

17. Both mothers marry up.

18. Both mothers are heirs to a haunted or possessed house. The Preston House in Unholy Pursuit and The Hazel Wood in The Hazel Wood.

19. Ana can fight and will fight back and the other mother will not.

20. Both mothers smoke when upset.

21. Both daughters cusses

where they're different is Ana is a fighter and goes down fighting whereas the other mother does not.

A. White I think if you are going to copy someone's work this closely you could give the original author credit for establishing the idea. I do even when the authors have been dead for years.
