World Read Aloud Day

Today is #WorldReadAloudDay

For those who may not be aware, Morgan Locklear was born legally blind. When we first began dating back in high school, I discovered that he wasn't a recreational reader. Not because he didn't enjoy books, but because he believed his eyesight limited his ability to do so.

As an enthusiastic reader, my solution was both simple and eager. I offered to read books aloud with him, so we could enjoy stories together. And I didn't break us into the activity lightly. The first book we read together was It by Stephen King. That gave us 1,116 pages to figure out if we had the stamina to keep going with other books.

Fast forward thirty years ...

Over time, Morgan has gone on to read many, many books without me. But we still make time to read books together. We usually choose to read in the evenings, once the chaos of the day is behind us. It's a great way to lock ourselves away, and relax as a couple. I think I speak for both of us when I say that reading novels together is a cherished experience.

Right now, we're reading The Raven by Sylvain Reynard, and are having a great time in the Underworld of Florence, Italy. Tonight, we'll be moving through Chapter Thirty-nine ...

"William was conscious of the tension in Raven's body, but she accepted his touch. He tried not to be distracted by the warmth and softness of her form, or the delight he had in wrapping himself around her.

He'd never held a woman this way before. He'd never asked a woman to tell him her secrets or share her hidden pain.

Raven was different."
