February 2020 Events

Hello everyone!

I hope you are staying warm and dry in this dreary month.

As some of you may know already, my graphic novel memoir, Almost American Girl has come out on January 28th. Thank you so much for all your support and encouragement both on social media and in person. I’m so happy to announce that my book has debuted on Indie Bookseller’s Bestseller list.   https://authorlink.com/indie-bestseller-list/the-indie-bestseller-list-6-2020/

My book launch was at East City Bookshop in Washington DC on January 30th. It had a great turn out and I had an awesome time chatting with another local cartoonist, Gareth Hinds about my comic bookmaking process and Q&A with the audience.

Here’s the audio of the Q&A if you wanna listen. Thanks to Mike Rhode for recording it!

In an exciting panel moderated by seasoned editor Joseph Illidge, comic book creators, Vita Ayala (Livewire), Robin Ha (Almost American Girl), and Khary Randolph (Excellence, Black) discuss using the language and format of the graphic novel to tell diverse stories related to culture, sexuality, and race, and also feature protagonists who transform our ideas of the traditional comic book hero.

C2E2 Panel discussion: From Memory to Memoir

Writing fiction is hard enough but writing nonfiction for teens comes with its own set of challenges. ALMOST AMERICAN GIRL author-illustrator Robin Ha, THE FIRE NEVER GOES OUT author-illustrator Noelle Stevenson, [and open to other authors] discuss taking their memories and customizing them for a young audience with their memoirs, and why they think the lessons they’ve learned in life will resonate with teenagers today and always.
Date: February 28th, 0020
Start Time:  1:45 PM End Time:  2:45 PM
Venue: Room S504
Speakers: Noelle Stevenson, Robin Ha

I have a few more events lined up, which I will be posting about it on my social media when they get confirmed. Please follow my Twitter and Instagram for updates on all of my events. I hope some of you can make it to these events and come and say hello! :)

You can now order ALMOST AMERICAN GIRL from all the bookstores nationwide, but of course, I would really encourage you guys to buy a copy from the independent bookstores near you.

Thanks for reading!

All the best,

Robin Ha
