Studying African History

The world is a large place. It is hard to get familiar with all of it. What we learn about this vast world, starts where we are from and then spreads out. That means when it comes to African and Asian history, I'm sorely lacking in knowledge.

To me, the names and places are so foreign that I struggle to connect with them. That makes me less inclined to study up on those areas. Yet they intrigue me. I want to know more about their histories. That means I try to gain more knowledge as often as I can.

I took a class on African history. I found it very interesting especially when lies were dispelled that I had been told for many years. I learned the truth of a large continent that has been a mystery to myself and to others for centuries.

I knew that European countries had claimed parts of Africa for a time. I didn't understand the problems that they had created and left behind. Taking that class opened my eyes. I learned a lot of truth that helped me understand the problems of today.

History is what the present day stands on. It creates the backbone of the people and why they act the way they do. I had to study African history to understand the Africa of today.
