Carolyn No, Mr. Watson “America” has not committed to — I can t even write it — the atrocious mistake in trying to say one COULDN’T care less. It’s is a horror I must endure at least weekly. How did it happen? Why don’t they hear it? How can I change it ? It’s a huge country and I’m just one woman! But I try, dammit, I try by acting perplexed and saying “Really? You could? Oh, I couldn’t. I definitely couldn’t care less. Not a whit. Not at all. No, not me.” Know that you are fortunate to live in a country where people know the difference between could and couldn’t. Know that most of us have made no such commitment to this terrible error. Thank the heavens that you live in a land where you don’t have to cringe in anguish each time you hear it. Count your blessings, sir. Enduring this travesty is like living in a nightmare. A nightmare that may happen any moment of any day.
