The Author Interviews
Thank you to 'The Author Interviews' for featuring me on your site:
Tell us a little about yourself?
I am an International Best-Selling Author on Amazon and have attended 31 book signings and 4 Book Tours. My 9 books have landed on 21 different Amazon Best Seller lists in the U.S., U.K. and Canada including #1 in U.K for Bible Study and #2 in U.S. for Bible Commentaries. I have been promoted in various newspapers, newsletters and magazines as well as being a guest on live interviews for podcasts and radio. I have a huge following across all my social media sites including my blog which reaches 21,000 readers. I am married to my best friend, Travis and we live in sunny Florida.
When did you start writing?
I started writing journals when I was 9-years old. I have old journal entries written in those days about adventures at the playground, and recess and my friend's sleepovers. I loved that even as a little girl, I was so observant about the world around me.
I was a student at Shady Grove Elementary School and my teacher, Ms. Bond introduced storytelling to me. A class project was to write a book – edited, formatted and illustrated – for a classroom competition. My book was called, “The Bear who lost his Way” about a bear who realized all his woodland friends could help him on his journey home.
I don’t think I won the competition, but that assignment truly won over my heart and I kept my little “book” for safe-keeping as a reminder that imagination and storytelling are the key ingredients for every great writer.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes. I am notorious for using my friends as characters in my books. In my 9 books, I have used 45+ real life people as characters on the text. Each person has to sign a permission form for me to use their name and likeness and fill out a questionnaire of personal information about themselves so I can further develop their character on the pages. And of course, I always use my husband, Travis as a reoccurring character in all of my books.
Do you read reviews?
I do read reviews. A good review about one of my books can keep me encouraged for months! I love seeing those 5-stars! Often times, my book speaks to the reader in more ways than one, which I am always excited about.
I do read the bad reviews and of course, I thank each reader for their time and judgement about my book. Even bad reviews can make me happy knowing someone took the time to give my book a chance!
And I have written so many genres in my collection, from fiction, to romance and fantasy and thriller...so I know there is something for everyone to enjoy!
Do you have any advice for young authors?
I am currently an Author Representative to my Publisher which means I am always giving advice to first time scribes.
Here are the words I readily repeat: Keep realistic expectations. You may not get rich and famous from your first book. The reason being is because you are a no-name author and quite frankly, one book isn’t going to get you too much attention.
If you are a real writer, you will write. You will write every day. You may be like me and have a “break out" book. Or you may have to wait a decade before you start seeing regular sales and consistent money coming in. Just be patient with the process. And write because you love it, not for any other reason.
Tell us about your latest release?
"The Roland Sisters and The Spirit Program" is my newest PG-13 Dark Christian Fiction novel.
"The Roland Sisters and The Spirit Program" is a speculative fiction that showcases our need for a Savior and how God heals us of our past to set us free in the present.
For those who love my Christian Fiction novels, “The Creation Project” and “This is My Heaven” will certainly enjoy this newest story as Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit come back as THE BOSS and THE SPIRIT SUPERVISOR working at The Executive Level in Heaven. The story takes place in The Omega Building as Case Manager, Alfred Deston works in The S.P.I.R.I.T. Program, taking on Case #296: The Roland Sisters. Alicia and Crissy Roland have nothing in common but everything to learn as they embrace the true ingredients for inward healing: forgiveness, selflessness and trusting in God.
The Case Managers’ Manta: Forgiveness of the Past. Freedom in the Present. Joy for the Future
This book is rated PG-13 for brief discussions of killings/death, mental illness and other related thematic elements
Some similarities to "The Roland Sisters and The Spirit Program":
"The Great Divorce" by C.S. Lewis because it shows another side of Heaven.
"The Shack" by William Young because it reveals the person-hood of the Trinity.
"The Roland Sisters and The Spirit Program" is set for a an older audience and is written for those who want to grow deeper in
their faith and in their relationship with the Lord.
Where can we find it?
You can find "The Roland Sisters and The Spirit Program" online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, BooksAMillion, Target and Walmart.
More stores and libraries locations can be found on my website.
What are you working on now?
I just signed another book deal for an Inspirational Fiction novel, “Andrew’s First Act.”
"Andrew’s First Act" is a first-person narrative about Andrew Masterson who pursues his dream to become a Stand-up Comedian in New York City.
This story is filled with fun and entertaining original jokes sure to please any audience who is looking to have a good read, no 2-drink minimum required!
