Friday Fives: Binge Watching
I thought it would be fun, now that I have my blog up and running, to share some of my favorite things. Every week, I’ll be back with a new top 5 list with everything from books to snacks.
Since most of us are stuck at home with the current pandemic, I’m sharing five of the TV shows I’m enjoying right now.
Bride of Habaek
The Bride of Habaek ( ) is a South Korean television drama spin-off of the 2006 sunjung manhwa Bride of the Water God by Yoon Mi-kyung.
If you love Lucifer, you should definitely check out Bride of Habaek. Habaek has led a stress-free life of opulence as a god, but when he’s sent to Earth to complete a mission before taking over as the ruler of all gods, he meets with a few stumbling blocks, including falling for his human “servant.”
Meteor Garden
“An ordinary girl is admitted to the most prestigious school in the country where she encounters F4, an exclusive group comprised of the four wealthiest and handsomest boys in the school…”
I stumbled on this one because Netflix kept recommending it, and I have no regrets. The story gets a little drawn out and frustrating at times, but the hooks at the end, just kept me coming back. If you enjoy bully, rich guy/working-class girl, and RH feels, it’s worth spending a few days binge watching.
Cinderella and the Four Knights
“Catching the eye of a wealthy gentleman, spunky Ha-wongets hired to live with his three immature grandsons so she can whip them into shape.”
Yes, there’s a definite pattern here. I rarely watch anything in English anymore. Cinderella and the Four Knights is similar to Meteor Garden, but a faster pace. It also has a little of the RH feel, but Ha-won is only interested in one of the guys romantically. However, the moment she’s in trouble, they all swoop in to save her.
Zoo
“Zoo is a global thriller about a wave of violent animal attacks against humans sweeping the planet.“
I don’t know how I ended up here, but Zoo was a wild ride. The characters are fantastic, and I enjoyed the constant twists and turns of the storyline. I wasn’t sure about the jump the 3rd season took, but I came to enjoy it. Unfortunately, it ends on a cliffhanger, so if you hate that, maybe skip the third season.
Discovery of Witches
“Diana Bishop, a historian and reluctant witch, unexpectedly discovers a bewitched manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library. This discovery forces her back into the world of magic in order to unravel the secrets it holds about magical beings.”
If you’ve read the books, you have to watch the series. If you haven’t, do both. I’ve already watched the first two seasons several times, and the third season is releasing Jan 2022. The storyline is riveting and complex, and although the show makes several artistic changes and simplifies it quite a bit, the love for the books is clear.
