Coming in Spring 2022! REMARKABLY BRIGHT CREATURES

I am beyond excited to announce that my debut novel, REMARKABLY BRIGHT CREATURES, will be published by Ecco/HarperCollins next spring! This story, and its quirky characters, have been brewing in my head for a while, and I’m so thrilled that I finally get to share them with you.

REMARKABLY BRIGHT CREATURES tells the story of a widow who befriends an aquarium-dwelling octopus. When a grifter comes to town, the three unlock a truth tied to her son’s disappearance thirty years ago.

I’ll share more details in the weeks and months to come, but if you want to stay in the loop (and be the first to know when preorders are available!), the easiest way is to sign up for my mailing list. (Just drop your email in that box to the right!)

A million (trillion!) thanks to everyone who has supported me in writing this book, from my husband and family, my amazing critique partners and writers group, my incredible agent, Kristin Nelson, and my wonderful editor at Ecco, Helen Atsma.

I can’t wait for you all to meet Marcellus the Octopus!

Estel Carbo Vinaixa Hi Shelby,

I LOVED your book! I wanted to reach out and ask that you please please please write part 2 of Remarkably Bright Creatures! I was left with a feeling of wanting to know more about Daphne and Erik's relationship, understand what happened, and see if Daphne and Cam could have a second chance and regain their relationship.

Thank you!!
Estel

Barb I loved your book. I recommended it to a friend in Port Townsend who works at their marine center when they were going to release their octopus! I hope your book will become a movie!

Mary Blieka I loved your book. It touched me deeply. It also made me laugh out loud in some places. Your characters were so relatable, and your imagery just beautiful! More please!!

Jim A friend recommended I read Remarkably Bright Creatures; I wasn't convinced I would like it given that one of the characters is, well, not human. I was pleasantly surprised in that I loved the book and all the characters, but Marcellus was my favorite! The play on the title toward the end made me smile. :-) Looking forward to reading more of your work!

Paula I'm pretty sure, like me, you have loved the octopus for a very long time. You have written a wonderful, warm, true to life story. There is everything to love about this book and I loved every page of it. You are a gifted writer and hope you are deep into your next work...I'll be looking for it!
