I run outside, usually at night. I am constantly aware of my surroundings and making sure I keep safe. There was one time, I ran past a streetlamp, and I saw a dark figure coming near me. I was startled at first until I realized… it was only my shadow following me, running alongside me.
I immediately thought of the lyrics from the song by Baz Luhrmann:

The race is long and, in the end, it's only with yourself" 🎵
I am not in a competition with anyone else! I do not need to be jealous of where other people are in life. I do not need to compare what he has or what she does or where they are going. I run my own race.
I need to focus on my own personal quota, to beat my own personal record, to excel at my own personal goals that I set for myself. (Note: I am not following anyone's else's life plans but my own!). The race is long. The course is yours. And victory is gained one lap at a time.
