Intelligent Disourse Versus Emotional Tantrums

I have always enjoyed observing and occasionally participating in spirited debates. Considering opposing opinions is the key to learning. Many of my best ideas have come from others.

What I cannot tolerate are those who love to argue merely for the sake of arguing. Usually they rely upon exaggerated, misleading, and often totally false statements to challenge one's comment regarding almost any subject.

Some people like rainy weather, some do not. Neither is right or wrong, they merely have differing opinions regarding the same situation. What I cannot tolerate are those who, though soaking wet, blatently claim that it is not raining.

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Christine Hayton I've been in those discussions and I usually just agree and walk away. Intelligence and common sense are often lacking and arguing becomes a means of communication for those locking confidence and needing to be right. Makes for a tedious relationship. As usual, Jim, you hit the nail right on the head. You are a wise man.

Jim Vuksic Christine,

Thank you for remaining one of the longest and most consistent followers of the blog.

I remember when you posted your declaration that you had grown tired of responding to mean-spirited verbal attacks and statements and were, therefore, ceasing your active participation within Goodreads discussion groups..

I truly miss those days when you were an active contributor to those Goodreads discussion groups. Your input was always well-stated and thought-provoking.

Robert Drews Hi Jim. I enjoy a lively debate with the best of them. What I don't care for are those who refuse to listen to anyone but themselves and those who like to think they have an answer for everything.

Take care, Jim, and God bless.

Jim Vuksic Bob,

Thank you for taking the time to view the blog post and share your feelings about the subject.

Far too many people do have an answer for everything. Unfortunately, their answer, more often than not, is wrong. To refuse to listen is to refuse to learn.

Again, I appreciate your willingness to share your thoughts.

Jim Vuksic.

Philip Maybe they had a bucket of water thrown over their heads...

Seriously, we all at times over step and need to row back opinion masquerading as fact.

Jim,

Despite being banned from participating in political discussion, by President Zelenskyy's minions, just thought I'd drop by to say that I'm still a regular reader of your blog, which always provides food for thought.

I also have you to thank for owning, and regularly enjoying, the complete works of Mark Twain,.

On the subject of this particular blog, we should all be careful about presuming it's rainiing when we get wet due to goings on above. Sometimes, we're simply being urinated on.

Philip, I've been monitoring your recent activity on WWW. Even though your profile has undergone several makeovers, your opinions masquerading as facts are still not good for one's blood pressure:)

Philip,

Thank you for taking the time to read the blog post and posting a comment.

I agree that many are taken in by those who routinely manipulate the truth and present their mis-guided opinion or personal philosphy as fact.

One must develop the habit of checking out multiple sources regarding any important issue prior to repeating unsubstantiated comments..

Beau,

Thank you for remaining a loyal follower of the blog. As you know, you and I have often participated withn the same discussion groups - sometimes agreeing and occasionally agreeing to disagree, but always respectfully.

Regarding your statement, I have occasionally been caught in the rain and, less often, urinated on. To-date, I have had no trouble discerining which was happening. However, I do get your point.
