How To Handle Bad Reviews

As a writer, not everyone is going to like your book. It's just the reality. No matter how wonderful the story is, or how amazing the cover is, there will always be those who don't like it. That's okay because not everyone enjoys Paranormal Romances. What I find hard to swallow is when I see a review and it tears the author apart. If you don't like the story, just say that. If it's too graphic or violent just mention that. Why try to destroy the author? I read a Time's best seller or rather tried to. Six times! Just couldn't do it. It got a thousand reviews and most loved it. I didn't. Did I review it? To be honest, no. First of all, I didn't finish it, so that wouldn't be fair. Secondly, what could I possibly say? That I tried six times to read it and still couldn't get through it. That I found it boring? Why do that to the author? Writing is wonderful but not always easy and an author puts their heart and soul into their story. Why would I tear her down? To what end? Here is my take on reviews. If you're going to be constructive then definitely write something. If you're just doing it to be mean, better off not writing anything. Just leave one star and move along. I could be wrong in this but it's how I feel. As a writer and a reader, if I don't like a story these days, I will just give it a few stars. No harsh words or tearing the author apart. Just a little feedback that may have the author thinking about how he or she will write her next story.
