To the year that was
When I wrote this post around the same time last year, I didn’t think I’d end up following through on a lot of it, or that I’ll be writing a follow up, but here we are!
Here’s a quick summary of the promises I’d made to myself last year and how I did.
Exercise: Staying fit and working out 30 mins/day is agenda #1.Well, didn’t miss a single day

Eating well: Junk reduction to at most twice a month is agenda #2.
This was a fail. I did eat better, my breakfasts in particular saw significant improvement, but the junk intake stayed around 4-5 times/month.
Learning a new skill: 2023 will additionally focus on Performance Marketing, Driving (yes, I still don’t drive confidently), and swimming. Gotta be good at these three.
I am the designated driver for all family trips now. Happy to count this one as a success, but that happened to be the only skill in focus in 2023.
Read. Last 2 years I’ve read 21 books each, and 2023 I want to take that up a notch. Here’s hoping to finish 30 books, and finally completing that goodreads challenge for a change.
Again finished 21! Although this time it was more of a choice once I realised there were some books of a more serious nature that I wanted to take my reading. That said, my list of 30 for next year is ready.
Reduce screen time. Ooh this is going to be the most challenging of them all, but reducing my average screen time to <6 hours a day is a necessity.
Narrator: He didn’t do it. To be fair I did have a great start and for the first four months I averaged 3 hours of daily screentime, but things just went downhill from there.
2023 was a year of stability, growth, and a lot of firsts for me. Apart from maintaining a lot of streaks and learning a bunch of new things, using AI (read: ChatGPT) like never before, this year was also about challenging assignments at work, some unprecedented professional results, loads of travel, good times with family, and being married to the most beautiful girl in the world!
For 2024, I plan to go ahead with the same resolutions, this time hopefully doing 100% of them. But more importantly, like always this year will be about being kinder, more empathetic, more helpful. Here’s wishing you a new year filled with happiness, growth, less politics, and more love. Happy New year
