Kennedy 35 by Charles Cumming

Having devoured all of Cumming's books I can find, including the two books leading up to this current book, I truly savored my time spent reconnecting with the main character, Lachlan Kite, as he recalls and revisits activities that happened years prior in Africa. The overarching A story is current and plausible, delving into the unsolvable problems of African politics, and Cumming's style of prose is easily read and accessible. Current day uncertainties regarding his former girlfriend, Martha, who is now unavailable to Kite, living in the US, and potentially at risk, move the B story along.
In fact, I liked it so much that I limited myself to reading only one or two chapters per day in order to savor the time spent with his characters in their world.
And I eagerly look forward to his next book in the Box 88 saga. I must say, of all current writers in the genre, he is my favorite.
So, why not a 5 star rating?
(Spoiler of sorts Alert)
Not a fan of a large cliff-hanger for an ending. It left me feeling a little flat and manipulated, although I can certainly understand the development in story-terms. I just hope I don't die or go blind before the next book comes out.
