What’s more dangerous the lies, or the truth? LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER won’t hit shelves, and beach bags, until July 9th but you can get an early look right now! There are free copies up for grabs on @goodreads. AND there are still a few days left to read on @netgalley. (Links to both in my bio!) As for the inspiration behind LMLD, which is, in many ways, a “reverse” RECONSTRUCTING AMELIA:

I wanted to write a book not only about the thorny relationship all mothers and daughters contend with as they come of age, but also about how challenging this relationship can be when combined with a mother’s own difficult past. Because all mothers are complex, layered people. Assuming otherwise, and reducing motherhood to a series of trite aphorisms puts enormous pressure on women to be something no one can ever be: perfect.

Though our experiences and histories diverge sharply in the details, Kat, the main character, and I share an awful lot in common. Hers was a story I have always needed to tell.

So, to all those women who love their children endlessly, but still struggle with motherhood—as a day-to-day reality or as an identity—I see you. And I hope you find as much comfort in reading Like Mother, Like Daughter as I did in writing it. ❤️📚
