I’m updating my website and wanted to include current Amazon and Goodreads information. I don’t think it’s unusual for an author to check the ratings for their books, and when I did, I was stunned to see that, while the majority of scores were four or five stars, someone ( without a review) had given the book a one star rating. Why in the world would someone give a book one star? Can any book written be so atrocious that it deserves one star? Does any author, with the time, effort, and soul it take to write a book, deserves only one star for their efforts? Is it a personal vendetta? ( I don’t think I have any enemies?) A rival trying to boost his or her rating, comparatively?
It reminds me of a class I taught at university. All positive ratings except for one “1” rating. Why? “Teacher expects you to present when you’re not ready.” 🙄
If you don’t have a lot of ratings, a one star rating can drag the average down- I’m guessing that was the intent of the perpetrator. But consider- does any book out there only deserve a 20% “grade?” Readers, if you find a book not to your liking, give a sentence or two to support that. Consider what type of audience might enjoy it, and make that suggestion. It’s tough work writing a book!
