The answer to 'what is art?' is actually quite simple.
And it is not literature, musical scores, or paintings.
Imagine you are cooking a meal. Were you a poor cook, you would drench your food in salt - the ignorant spice.
Those who can't cook use salt.
A fine cook would understand how each food relates to the other. And how temperature brings out and accentuates each flavour.
True art is when your cooking is so subtle that when someone takes a single bite they instantly have a question:
"What is that?"
- fighting to name the spice on their tongue and the flavour on the back of their throat
If you can make a person ask a question. If you can insert wonder in their mind, then you are an artist
At anything.
Art must never be obvious. It must never tell you what it is or what it means. It must be like a mirror. You must be able to see yourself inside of it. It should make you wonder.
Like looking up at the night sky.
