It’s a lazy Sunday morning here, and I’ve just had a couple of slices of pizza for breakfast.
Pizza for breakfast? you say, mildly horrified.
Yes, I respond with glee.
I went out for dinner last night with a friend who’s moving interstate. It was a very pleasant evening, full of good book-talk and movie/TV talk. And we ate pizza. It’s a good restaurant — we’ve been there before, and they have all kinds of delicious Italian food, but we both admitted we’d had a craving for pizza recently, so that’s what we ordered.
When going for pizza, I always check the menu carefully. Will I choose this . . . or that . . oh, and that looks delicious — but I almost always end up ordering the same thing — capricciosa — tomato puree, mushrooms, prosciutto (ham) cheese, olives, and sometimes artichoke hearts. It’s a classic.
But often the pizzas are quite big, which I like, because then I get to take the rest home — usually it’s around a quarter) and I have it for breakfast. I don’t always reheat it—I like cold pizza— but it’s a chilly morning here, and so I reheated it and ate it for breakfast, along with a good big strong cup of coffee. I know it sounds a bit decadent, but my normal breakfast is very healthy so on the rare occasions when I have pizza in the fridge, it’s a treat.
Do you have a favorite pizza? And would you have it for breakfast? Do you like pizza capricciosa?
