I am very grateful that Philosophy Now has chosen to republish my essay on love and philosophy of consciousness from 2020 in their latest issue.
I try to explain why love is never just physical, with the aid of Donald Davidson’s anomalous monism. I argue:
“Love is also a phenomenon of consciousness – a mental event, if you will – and as such it cannot be entirely explained by or even deduced from the natural sciences. The reason is that the predicates/properties of the mental and of the physical are cat egorically different, even though they might be ontologically the same.”
