fake Lois impersonator appears again

Huh.

I'm informed by a friend that the Bujold impersonator, or another one, has also turned up on a site or platform called Mastadon.

The impersonator is using

https://mastodon.social/@loismcmasterb

and

loismcmasterb@gmail.com

This Is Not Me. Pass the word.

I'd email them a tart note, but I don't want to give them my real email address.

Still not sure what to do about this, besides warning folks. As before, if anyone wants to reach the real me, try simply Googling "Bujold Goodreads blog" or "Bujold Goodreads ask the author".

This, and my old hangouts on Baen's Bar and the dendarii.com chat lit, are the only places I am presently interacting with the internet; plus the mirrors of this blog on Facebook and Amazon, which are one-way. If you see someone claiming to be me anywhere else, be suspicious.

(Fan discussion and podcast sites are, of course, another thing altogether, but I think those are self-evidently fannish. And interviews, which I usually post about here.)

Ta, Lois (tm).

Keith H. Big fan of your Miles and Penric books here. I have an infrequently used Mastodon account. This particular impersonator is on one of the biggest "instances" or servers on Mastodon. I don't know if that means your response time will be longer (or indefinite). Anyway take a look at the "About" page for Mastodon Social or try sending an email to staff@mastodon.social. Good luck.

Laura I use Mastodon, and I went ahead and reported it to the server, referencing this post. Hopefully other people will report it and we can get them removed.

I checked in just now, and the account has been suspended. (sent a toot to the bookstodon as well, just to make sure)

Lois Bujold Thanks, folks!

Laura Lois, the administrator for my server on Mastodon (wandering.shop) wants to know if you'd like to set up a verified placeholder account to redirect people to your actual social media? Basically, they set up an account that directs people to your real social media, and use the Mastodon verification system (which requires a little tiny bit of techie-ness, an invisible link on your official website). Wandering.shop is a server heavy with writers, some you might even recognize, so it might be a logical spot to have a placeholder account.

I'm not sure if this would work for me... This Goodreads blog IS my social media, apart from some elderly (like me) presence on a couple of older fading chat groups. And I don't own/control/manage any of them. (Nor do I wish to.) Hm.

Laura No sweat. She made the offer with the hopes of spiking other imposters before they start. Those of us on Mastodon can keep up with monitoring for fakes instead, and point people here.

If you want to discuss it more, the address for the administrator is wandering.shop / @proprietor. You can check out the whole Mastodon experience there, if you feel like it. There's even a little thread about you at wandering.shop / @proprietor / 114124936496882872 (that's the URL with spaces and no http).
