I Should Be Mowing the Grass

ZOMG! I survived a long winter of snow blowing only to roll into the wettest, swampiest spring in memory! What. The. Hell.

You’d think the sleeping alone and the loss of someone contractually obligated to love, honor, and cherish my silvering, sagging self would be the toughest part about divorce. But NOPE. It’s the blowing and mowing. Or rather – the paralysis that halts my blood and breath when I’m trying to start a machine and it won’t go.

After a new filter, some starter fluid, a tune-up, a house call from the hardware store, and a LOT of cursing, I’m finally almost ok at mowing the lawn.

But last week, I was sitting at the kitchen table on a cool, damp evening, watching the bunnies hop happily around in the too-long grass when I realized one of those cute little suckers kept returning to the same spot. I raced out into the yard to discover that damn rabbit was building a den in the MIDDLE of the yard, mocking my mowing frequency. Can you imagine? Me, FINALLY getting my mowing groove on, only to plow into a den of baby bunnies, committing murder and mayhem? My God – NO.

I stopped the bunny from building a den and decided to mow, even though it was too wet.

A few days later, I had to do it again because it was going to rain for another eon straight, and I had to get ahead of it, lest the bunnies start their den building mockery all over again.

And now? I’m looking out the window. The sun is shining after days of rain. More days of rain are predicted, so you know what that means?

I should go mow.

But first: a cover reveal for SCRUMPTIOUS!

Scrumptious was my first published single-title romance, and holds a special place in my heart. It’s a love letter to my early career in food service AND my first husband. I showed the cover to my middle kid, and she said, “I love it. It’s you and Dad.” I’m proud of that because we always said we wanted the kids to believe kissing in the kitchen is commonplace.

That part of our lives may be over, but this book hold up! I’m having fun hanging out with my Scrumptious characters as I edit a wee bit before re-pubbing.

COMING SOON!

Sometime after I mow for the millionth time…

P.S. Looking for a cool bookish event in WNY? Jessica Topper and I will be signing books on June 7th at the Life is Succulent Book Fair. We’d love to see you! (Image Credit to Life is Succulent, linked below!)

Happy Spring! (Damn the long, wet grass! Full speed ahead!)
