When A Camel Craves Loqaimat

Yes it is a very strange title for a children's book, but how am I going to get children to read books about our culture unless I entice them with an interesting title. My new Arabic picture book "When A Camel Craves Loqaimat" is launching during Sharjah International Book Fair (7 - 17 November 2012). My book reading and signing will we be on the Tuesday 13th November at 11:00 AM. Bring your little ones if you care for a camel ride into the desert and meet how a little girl greets her camel guest. It's funny, quirky and full of Emirati words which some of them will be new to your kids. I hope you come and let me know what you think about the book.

Lisa Salam Alaikom Maitha! Thank you for "liking" my review of Where the Streets Had a Name, that was a wonderful book! I love your little graphic next to your name, so cute and very clever with the Arabic on the left and the English on the right. Is it one of your illustrations? Your books look adorable! It's so fun to connect with a fellow reader so far away! Happy Reading and writing! :)

Maitha Thank you for commenting. I am a children's author and illustrator and I write in both Arabic and English. This graphical image is illustratedby hand and then I gave it to a graphic designer to tweak it and the result was perfect. I am a Muslim and most women here cover their faces. I wanted an avatar that woukd represent me and so many women like me yet look cute at the same time. Glad you like it and hope one day you read my books and review them.

Lisa I think the graphic is brilliant. In the west we are often faced with the stigma that Middle Eastern women cover their heads and faces and therefore are not happy, that they feel oppressed. But clearly this image shows so much joy! I love that you have done something to narrow that gap between us. I would love to read your books with my children and review them. I will look into finding English copies. It would also be nice to give some copies to my library, both in English and Arabic. Lovely job, Maitha. Lovely website as well.

Maitha, that is so kind of you! I will write and send you the address. They have a small Arabic children's section in our library and this will be such a wonderful addition. English readers will also benefit greatly. I can't wait to read them! I'm sure they are as sweet as they look.

I found an English copy of My Own Special Way! We read it and we all loved it! I reviewed it on Goodreads and gave it 5 stars. It's a beautiful book, Maitha! Well done!
