What is Lock Creek Like? Which Book?

New readers ask me to compare my books to other books that are out in the world.
"Is it like Twilight?"
"Is it like 50 Shades?"

The quick answer is, no! My books aren't as "innocent" as "Twilight." But, they're not as bold as "50 Shades."

If I had to pick a book to compare it to, I'd have to say "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks would be the closest comparison. Our story lines are very different, as is our content. But, Nicholas Sparks has a way of capturing love and making you love his characters. I feel, for that reason, Lock Creek is a lot like "The Notebook." Obviously, this is a series, where as "The Notebook" was not. Lock Creek is considerably racier than "The Notebook" in places. But, it's not in an "ugly" way. In my mind, there is a moral responsibility that comes with those scenes and I've tried to write them with that belief. You can read those scenes and it makes your own imagination do some work, to a degree. But, I wouldn't suggest anyone under eighteen read my work, as I do write for mature audiences. I also wanted to give the reader the ability to skip any parts they may find offensive, without missing any major parts of the story. So far, I've not had anything but positive feedback on that.

At the end of the day, the bottom line is that every writer is different. It would be very difficult to compare literature, in my opinion, because we're all see the world in so many different ways. But, when my feet are held to the fire, I think the feeling you have for Anne and Derrick will be a lot like the feeling you had for Allie and Noah. I put my characters through a lot. I try to blend in mystery so that as you read, you have a lot of those "A-ha!" moments. Or, you get to have the surprise - a reward, if you will - for staying with these characters and this series. If you never make it past the first book, you're never going to get the full experience that was designed for you. But, that hasn't really been an issue. If anything, I can't write them fast enough to keep up with the readers. So, if you're new to this series and you check it out, please share your thoughts. Can Lock Creek REALLY be compared to anything else?
