Why do I price my books for less than $3.00USD and you probably should do too?
The reason is obvious or maybe it isn’t clear. It all rests on the fact that all of a sudden you created something thinking it’s something new (perhaps it is and it isn’t). It is new, based on the fact that everyones soul is unique, also the way in which you express an idea, will ultimately be entirely different from the way someone else exposes the same view.
It isn’t new, simply because you are not the only author out there.
Coming out of the closet, as an author makes you feel like you have accomplish something you always longed for. Perhaps it is also something new for you, in terms of the fact that it is something you had never done before and ultimately, writing is good for your soul!
What does this all have to do with the price you choose to sell your books at? Well, there is no correlation, individuals choose exactly what kind of price they want to sell their books for and this has nothing to do with how many authors exist in the world or how experienced you really are. However, due to the turning fact that there are actually millions of other authors in existence and all kinds of books about any imaginable topic, avid readers will ultimately pay anything for what they want.
In today’s technologically advanced world, it is not too difficult to find books that are worth a lot of money and at the same time these same books unfortunately have been published for free everywhere online. With the high risk of having readers reading your hard-work for free, I believe it comes to reason to price books for a relatively, “low price.”
As human beings we have this misconception about price being linked to quality, which is not always the case. We tend to think that a higher price may indicate higher quality, this is not always true, simply because there is no similarity between the cost of a book and the personal taste of an individual. It would be an amazing and unexpected result, if you got to sell a million copies of a certain book for a considerable higher price than say $0.99 cents. But even if you only sell a million copies of a book, priced at $0.99cents this will still almost make you a millionaire.
Bottom line is that if a book is priced for more than a certain amount of money and people can get it for free; they probably will get it for free. Even though it’s morally wrong or it’s unfair to the author who put a lot time to work and bring to life a piece of longed for art. However, if a person has the possibility of getting it for free and they see it only costs a dollar ($0.99cents) it may change the way they think or their original intention, kind of like going to the flea market, you will just go ahead and pay the dollar because when your conscience begins to knock your head, you will more likely be willing to apply justice.
