Did You say Mote it Be?
(by Paul Borda. See below for contact info)
I am often asked what "so mote it be" means. The actual meaning of mote is based upon old Anglo-Saxon language and means thank you as in saying, "Thank you for asking". The word is also related to "The truth has been spoken." The term can also be used when an agreement has been made between two or more people like a handshake to seal a deal.
In witch circles the phrase "So mote it be" is spoken at the end of a meeting, a spell, and/or a ritual and is the same as saying, "So might it be" or "So be it" or "Let it be"; similar to ending a prayer with, amen.
In essence one (one witch that is in relationship to this blog) is confident and committed to what she has just declared as good and truthful. It's your word. You declared. Said it and own it.
Another ending statement that one might say besides or in addition to so mote it be, is "Blessed be." This shows a connection to, and respect for, Divine Forces outside of herself that empower her creation and she is pulling in their blessings (helping hands make light the work.)
Blessed is the power of many minds thinking sunny thoughts. Will you connect today with like minded by sending out rays of golden energy throughout planet earth? So Mote It be.
