CM Nanes This author is all about ego. A former friend of mine idolized DG and emulated her. Unfortunately doing so turned a potentially great writer into a disorganized mess. You're right DG goes off the path and the path itself is sooooo long!

Claire Fraser I too, felt Gabaldon has some strange fixation on rape, torture, and man beating. It is over the top. As if "lets see how much we can beat up Jamie, Ian, and Roger. How much trauma and near death experiences can I throw at them in a lifetime"
Every family member and servant gets raped eventually. Really twisted sexual encounters. Twisted relationships. Just no.

You're not expected to like it but it doesn't mean the author is exaggerating it.
