I think that makes sense, Alex, but time doesn't function in this novel in a clear way. I think we're meant to wonder about time frames. I always thought that Adrian was the baby's father...but the conversations here made me question that. In the movie version of the book, It's clear that the position taken is the Adrian Jr. is Adrian's baby. He looks exactly like Adrian. Barnes must love the confusion he's left us in. I really loved the book...and I think the title is perfect. With so many gaps in our understanding of each other's actions and motives, we most often get only "A Sense of an Ending.
